Leaving for a Bit and "The Butterfly Effect" Chapter 21
I'm going to be gone for a little while, starting on Thursday, and I'll be pretty much impossible to get ahold of while I'm gone.
To that end, I'm going to answer a few of the questions that have come up about Chapter 21, in the hopes that it will save me a few e-mails while I'm gone :) I will add further questions to this as I can, up until the point I leave, so feel free to ask more! As may be obvious, the following contains spoilers for "The Butterfly Effect".
I know this chap was a bit of a gut kick, especially after having not updated for such a long time, but I swear that there are actual reasons that things are happening this way- it's not just the drugs talking ;) There aren't that many chapters left before the climax and I promise that this was absolutely necessary to the plot. That being said, I completely understand some of the confusion and I'll try to answer the questions as best I can without badly spoiling the rest of the story.
1.Why is Shigure evil/acting so weird/mean to Tohru?
I'm glad that so many people picked up that Shigure was acting strangely. Please hold that thought for a few more chapters! As a big hint- remember that Tohru and the boys have a very, very limited idea of what happened to the rest of the Sohmas while they were gone since Hatori and Momiji sort of seemed to dance around the issue a lot. One way or the other, there's probably a lot of stuff that Tohru hasn't been made aware of (one of the fun things about only seeing the story from Tohru's perspective). Also, if you've read the manga, manga Shigure would be a big clue to why this Shigure might be upset with Tohru. It might also help to remember why Shigure is in this mess in the first place :) Huge Hint: If you're feeling particularly confused, there have been hints about Shigure and his motivations dropped in various chapters in the story from Chapter 1 on.
2. Was what happened during the scene with Shigure and Hatori a mistake?
No. Extra special bonus cookies for those of you who noticed this!
3. Are the shifts to present tense for artistic effect?
Actually, the entire story, with the exception of a few flashbacks and memories, is in present tense. There are a couple of crucial plot and characterization reasons for this, which may or may not already be obvious. I'm glad that it's not immediately noticeable though :)
4. Is Tohru's relationship with Hatori going to change now?
Put it this way- Hatori probably had a good reason for not telling her about this.
5. Where's the smut?
Hey- just because they're fictional doesn't mean they don't occasionally need some privacy. Perve.
6. Is sex all the men think about?
Quite possibly. Unfortunately, as the entire story is from Tohru's perspective, we may never be entirely sure.
7. Why can Shigure touch Tohru if he can't touch anybody else?
Extra-special cookies to those of you who noticed this! Hold that thought! Hint- Why is nobody else surprised that Tohru can touch Shigure when the rest of them can't? Big Hint- It's not entirely true that Shigure can't touch anyone else.
8. How does Shigure know that Tohru is a butterfly?
Well, Hatori could have told him, but actually there's an answer to that in Chapter 1. How did he know that that was Tohru specifically? Well, I guess we'll see ;)
9. Where's Haru?
Probably sitting in that black hole that the rest of the Sohmas occupy when I'm not writing about them.
10. Did anyone else know that Tohru was there/how long did Shigure know that Tohru was there?

11. Is Tohru going to have sex with Butterfly?
