002 ][ i'll do things for you

Mooching is bad.

Is anyone hiring? I have no useful job skills and I've never been non-self-employed before. Honesty is the best policy.

More importantly, does anyone out there play an instrument? Vocalists? Managers?

Because I'm cursorily interested in seeing if it would be possible to start up a band here. That way I don't have to hold a job

financial independence, gainful employment, something fishy happening here, this situation is confusing and alien, not a panic situation yet, underwhelmed, as nature made him, dingoes ate my baby, mooching is bad

I can sing. More or less. I sing at Blue's bar, the Blue Light-- seems like you've already met him.

Yeah. Isn't he kinda young to be running a bar?

What do you sing?

Anything can happen here-- and I don't think he's as young as he looks, really. But that's not as bad as the time a young girl ran her own bar. Think she's left, though.

Mmm... whatever people have me sing. To date, only songs for revolutionary rallies and jazz for the bar, though.

So he's immortal. Oh.

Have you ever heard of alternative music?

...well, I don't-- that's not what I meant exactly. Just that not all people age in the same way here. For someone who's jumped to that type of conclusion, though, you don't seem very perturbed.

Not prior to coming here, no.

But it is the most likely explanation. Like a vampire. Immortal.

Since you've been here?

I guess I'm not in the best position to judge.

Since I've been here, I've listened to a great number things, heard bands playing in the bars and clubs. Is that what you played, then? In your world.

We sort of had a vampire problem at home.

I was in a band for about four years. We had two albums out with local studios. Dingoes Ate My Baby.

I don't know if they exist, where I'm from.

Dingoes ate your-- well, I'm sure all the parents liked that one. Any of your other band members here?

Maybe not. Our lives aren't like other people's.

Nope. Just me. Really could have used Devon, though. Our vocalist.

Is the City still exciting for you, at least?

If you're good enough with a guitar-- probably acoustic for starters-- I bet there are a lot of bars that'd let you play, even if only to check for how the audience responds at first.

Is it supposed to be?

Probably. But I'm not much of the beatnik sort, you know.

Typically. But you seem a little more deadpan than most.

...you'll need to make an income somehow. Compromise, somehow. Do you have roommates, at least?

I don't really do excited.

I have a couch I'm sleeping on at a friend's place. But I prefer to be financially independent.

Everyone does excited-- people just have different thresholds.

So what kind of jobs are you looking for, then?

I'm not at mine, apparently.

The kind that pay money and let me request certain days off.
