Okay, so I was going to talk about Easter on here today, but... That's boring. All I have to say is that I had a really good one and here's a picture of my dad's side of the family
http://www.herald-dispatch.com/multimedia/galleries/news/x85631611/Gallery-Readers-Easter-photos (I'm the one in the back row on the far right). These are the ones that people DON'T ask me if I'm adopted when they see me with them. Instead I'm going to write about what I think the Idols should sing tomorrow.
Adam: This one was the hardest because I can pick from pretty much anything and he would probably do an amazing job singing it. Somehow I narrowed it down to just a few things (and took out 'Closer' because no matter how amazing it would be, they totally wouldn't let him).
- 'Kiss' from Under the Cherry Moon. This could be AMAZING. People know it, he has the range to sing it, and, most importantly, he has the stage presense to sing it. Plus, omigosh, Adam singing this could be ridiculously hot.
- 'One Song Glory' from RENT. This is an obvious choice given Adam's background in musical theater. I think he could pull it off, just not as well as Adam Pascal. This out of all of my choices is probably the one I want to see from him the least. It's too obvious, overdone, and I just don't think I would like him singing it.
- 'Don't Stop Me Now' from Shaun of the Dead. Adam has sang Queen before and pulled it off brilliantly. It would also be reeeeeally cool if someone sang something from Shaun of the Dead, just sayin'.
- 'Live or Let Die' from Live or Let Die. It's a song from a Bond film! Seriously, I think it would be really good for Adam's range and he could make this song really theatrical. I think he would do a really good job (my dad completely disagrees with me and says his ears would bleed if Adam sang it, to each his own I guess).
Allison: Okay, so Allison was really hard to find songs for because most songs from movies that I know, she just doesn't have the range for. I think I might have narrowed down a few she would do well with, though.
- 'Keep Holding On' from Eragon. Avril is young and it would probably do Allison some good to seem younger because most people see her as a 30 year woman in a 16 year old's body. She picks older songs and her 12 packs a day voice just makes her seem so old. I also think she could show off her range with a slower song.
- 'Bring Me to Life' from Daredevil. This is a very popular canidate for Allison's song. I kind of want her to sing it, but Carly Smithson sang this on the Idols Tour last year. She didn't even do it justice so I really can't imagine how Allison could. I would be really, really impressed if she could though. It would probably make me a devoted fan if pulled it off.
- 'Breakaway' from The Princess Diaries 2. The judges have compared her to Kelly Clarkson a couple of times and this would be her time show that to the rest of us. It would also be a younger song for her to sing which would be really good for her.
Anoop: I don't know if I want Anoop to sing something fast or a ballad. He doesn't seem to do very good with the faster songs, but he's getting really predictable with the ballads. :-/
- 'When Doves Cry' from Purple Rain. I'm a big Prince fan, obviously. ^^;; I do think Anoop could do really well with this song. I think there is enough for him to show off his range, but it certainly would be boring. It could very well be a disaster like that Usher song. I hope not because I love Prince and I would have to dislike Anoop then.
- 'Unforgettable' from Watchmen. This would certainly show off Anoop's range and I would probably melt if he did sing this. It might end up being kind of boring to most people (I'll be picturing JDM and nothing can be boring when you think about him. Mmmm.) but I would enjoy it. Plus, I was listening to this when I was trying to think of songs for Anoop to sing.
- 'Take My Breath Away' from Top Gun. Another slow, possibly boring, song that would probably make me melt.
- 'Go the Distance' from Hercules. Michael Bolton sang it (but I don't think Anoop is much of a Michael Bolton fan tbqh) and it would do wonderfully with Anoop range. I really think he could pull it off and soccer moms across America might love him. Okay, my mom would love him but that's pretty much the same thing, right?
Danny: I am not a Danny fan so it was rather difficult to pick songs for him. I think I did pretty good hiding my hatred.
- 'Cuban Pete' from The Mask. Danny constantly brings up how much he likes salsa in every single interview, now he has an opportunity to sing a salsa song. He can also do one of the stupid dances he likes to do and he could actually sing it really well.
- 'Man in Motion' from St. Elmo's Fire. As much as I don't like him, he could probably blow this song out of the water. I might actually become a fan if he sang this and did it well. Plus, it's from the eighties so he could make it as cheesy as possible and you really can't complain. Because it was the eighties.
- 'Accidentally in Love' from Shrek 2. He could sing this well, it's fast, he could do a weird dance, and I think he would be able to pull it off. And the judges would LOVE it.
- (because I can) 'Damn It Feels Good 2 Be a Gangsta' from Office Space. I know it could never happen (at least on American Idol) but just imagine it. It would be brilliant. I would laugh my ass off and forever love him.
Kris: Kris is, as of right now, my favorite in the competition, so I wanted to pick the best songs for him. :D
- 'My Father's Gun' from Elizabethtown. I think if Kris were to sing this song, I would die of happiness. It probably won't happen since Elizabethtown isn't a terribly well-known movie and Kris (despite being a Southern boy) probably wouldn't want to be associated with this song since it's about "The War of Northern Aggression" (I live in the South, okay, that's what they call it). It probably wouldn't go over well with the general public, but it would be amazing if he sang this.
- 'Grow Old With You' from The Wedding Singer. I don't know if the movie version is long enough to be sang on the show, but he would win over every woman in America. It's a sweet song, he could use his guitar, and it's from an old school Adam Sandler movie (and who doesn't love old school Adam Sandler?).
- 'Tiny Dancer' from Almost Famous. Okay, I'm a sucker for Prince and Elton John. Sue me. Kris isn't exactly as good as Elton John is, but I think he could do really well with this song. It's another sweet song and I just think he'd win the hearts of all the soccer moms out there.
- 'This TIme' from August Rush. Kris and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers sound really, really different but I think Kris could do really well with this song. It could be another 'Ain't No Sunshine' for him.
Lil: I'm not a huge Lil fan. I don't think she's lived up to her potential and the last time I thought she had a good performance was during Hollywood. I think if she doesn't pick Whitney or Celine she could do really, really well this week.
- 'Kissing You' from Romeo + Juliet. Lil could do really well with this. She could do this even with her range and it would be really good. It isn't too powerful for her or quite as well-known as 'I Will Always Love You', but it isn't completely unknown either. I think it would be a great choice.
- 'God Help the Outcasts' from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. If Lil doesn't pick Whitney or something from Dreamgirls, I think she'll end up choosing something from Disney because she's a mother and I know they have to watch Disney movies over and over. Hunchback isn't exactly a kid favorite (other than at my house, I made my mom watch it so many times), but 'God Help the Outcasts' would be a good song from her. And I don't want her messing with any The Little Mermaid songs.
Matt: I downloaded Matt's studio recordings off iTunes and, wow, he has a great voice when you aren't looking at him (yes, I am that shallow). I'm going to cover my eyes when he performs this week and I think I'll love it.
- 'So Close' from Enchanted. Jon McLaughlin has a beautiful voice and a lot of talent behind the piano, as does Matt (just not as much). I think Matt could do very, very well with this song. He could play the piano and be in his comfort zone, but I don't think the judges would bash him for it because the song kind of requires it. Paula (and I) will probably cry, though, and that's never fun.
- 'America' from Almost Famous. Okay, I'll be honest, I don't remember when this is in the movie just that it's on the soundtrack. I think Matt would do really well with a Simon & Garfunkal song. It's slower, pretty, could adapt very well to his range, and it's FREAKING SIMON & GARFUNKAL. Who doesn't want to sing a song by them?
- 'Don't Write Me Off' from Music & Lyrics. Another song for Matt to play on the piano, but I really love it when he plays the piano. So... Nyeh. It's a pretty, heartfelt song (although I don't know how well it would do outside the context of the movie). It also can't be said that the original sounded better than him because Hugh Grant, as charming as he is, isn't the best singer in the world.
Okay, this is really, really late but we can ignore that, right? It took a lot more effort to write this than I thought it would. :(
