I have been extremely conflicted about the field in which I should continue my graduate studies. Social psychology, political psychology, or political science has been the internal debate. Initially, I was primarily interested in social psychology with a slight interest in political psychology. Then, after becoming involved with the Obama campaign I shifted hard towards political science with a hint of political psychology. Recently, I was shifting back towards social psychology, as the Democratic primary has droned on and has started to resemble politics as usual. Tonight, however, posed a great challenge to my interests. I was offered the position of communications director for a man running a competitive race for U.S. Congress against a dirty Republican incumbent who ran such a dirty campaign in 2006 that his own party chose not to endorse candidacy. This candidate has a great shot and the national party is throwing a lot of money into this race and it would almost assuredly land me a job in Washington following the election, if it is successful. Even if it is not, I will have develop some amazing connections and gain some valuable experience in running campaigns--and my particular duties would involve controlling my candidate's public image (meaning, I would be his George Stephanopulous--his spin doctor, more or less). Oh my. This offer is terribly troubling. Especially since it comes as I am in the final weeks of courses in my graduate program where the only thing standing between my degree and I is a thesis.

Oye vei.
