Church has been incredible the past few weeks. Last week, I left inspired to seek out some march for justice or some war protest to bring home the countless Americans dying needlessly. This week I left feeling really at one with the world and the interconnectedness of all things. In hindsight, I think the reason I stopped going for a couple months was that the last service I had attended was one that is held once every year in order to make the Church's financial ends meet and it reminded me too much of my Christian upbringing where my pastors would beg for money in the name of god. It was alienating and likely the reason why I lost the desire to continue attending services. At any rate, I made the plunge last week and I am filled again with the inspiration and energy of this loving community of diverse individuals and ideologies.
This week we sang a couple of hymns that I especially enjoyed.
Come, come whoever you are
Come, come, whoever you are
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving
Ours is no caravan of despair
Come, yet again, come

We laugh, We cry
We laugh, we cry, we live, we die;
we dance, we sing our song.
We need to feel there's something here
to which we can belong.
We need to feel the freedom
just to have some time alone.
But most of all we need close friends
we can call our very own.
And we believe in life,
and in the strength of love;
and we have found a need
to be together.
We have our hearts to give,
we have our thoughts to receive;
and we believe that sharing
is an answer.
We seek elusive answers to
the questions of this life.
We seek to put an end to all
the waste of human strife.
We search for truth, equality,
and blessed peace of mind.
And then, we come together here
to make sense of what we find.
And we believe in life,
and in the strength of love;
and we have found a joy
being together.
And in our search of peace,
maybe we'll finally see:
even to question truly
is an answer.

We Would Be One
We would be one as now we join in singing,
Our hymn of love, to pledge ourselves anew.
To that high cause of greater understanding
Of who we are, and what in us is true.
We would be one in living for each other,
to show to all a new community.
Last week, most of our songs were some classics from the 1960s. The Youngbloods, Bob Dylan, Woodie Guthrie, and Buffalo Springfield. It was sweet.
