Brad didn't join the Corps to fight dragons (no matter what anyone says; that commercial had no influence on his life choices), and he didn't join the Corps to see the world (or for Thai pussy). Brad does see the world, but the dragons and the Thai pussy are a lie.

Brad doesn't realize what's missing (spare parts, of course, gun lube, of course, batteries, of course; Brad's starting to feel grateful someone in the supply chain thought to pack bullets) until three days into his next tour.
