Today I made pancakes for the first time! I used the simple recipe mycroftnext passed to me a while back, and added chocolate chips to it. I can see now why pancakes are considered a breakfast food--they're really easy to make. The way my mom used to make a big deal about it growing up, I thought it was like the flapjack equivalent of slaughtering your own cow for ground beef.

Yesterday a girl got on the train at Smithsonian just as the doors shut. The rest of her tour group didn't make it on the train. IT WAS AWESOME! One of the guys in her tour just smirked and waved at her from the platform. Someone made sure she got off at the right stop, so it turned out ok.

mom, incidentally, is in california. On the plane out of pittsburgh, she ran into my very first japanese tutor (who'd moved away from wheeling four or five years ago). When I decided I wanted to learn Japanese, it was partway through the school year, so I couldn't get into the Japanese classes offered at school. My tutor was the mother of a girl I'd taken piano with for years, so we asked her if she would teach me. A few weeks after that, we talked to the teacher at school and she was like 'you can place into a level next year' and lent me the first year books.
They were on the same flight to chicago! it's such a small world sometimes.
