soooo, dad's going to china right? he's also writing a (history) book. today, he charges me with transferring some word documents from his ancient dinosaur of a computer (1995. thank god he didn't ask me to try and use the other, older computer....from when i was five, maybe) to his shiny new (ginormous) laptop. He's got this program which is supposed to transfer all the files over, ok, no problem. Except.
except, the USB-cable connection won't work the with '95. Their programs, etc don't recognize that version of windows, no dice. So I'm like, ok. I have a flashdrive, let's try that. Of course, it doesn't recognize my flash drive's self-installer; i don't even know why i bothered. I'm like, ok, we've got a 2000 computer upstairs that takes little A-drive disks.
So we dig through the house for some of those little unused disks. Finally find some empty ones, pop them in, copy the word documents over yay! finally, something working. w00t!
except then, because that computer had some kind of problem, we asked a friend who's supposedly good with computers fix it for us. Only he installed windows 98 as the operating system, so despite the pretty USB ports and everything and the fact that they worked before, now. now they don't.
Long story short, we tried several ways to try to get the upstairs old computer to recognize the flashdrive(s), to no avail, when i realized, 'oh, hey. the internet works on this computer. sweet! So i start trying to email myself the documents. Whatever format he was using for the first one (all the others were fine), just wasn't working. it wouldn't transfer, wouldn't email. It did, in my last ditch effort, let me open it alright, so in the end, i copypasted the entire thing into an email to transfer back here to his new computer.
dear lord, it was a process.
in other news, still leaving tomorrow, still love
you all. have nice lives, see you in a couple weeks.
