No Doubt Concert Review

Mar 15, 2002 17:05

First off, the concert was at an amphitheater, basically a wide open space with the sky above you. You get to sit on the floor, no seats or anything of the sort, but who sits down at these concerts anyways? The tickets were $48 each, I got mine the very first day, about 10 minutes after they went on sale Feb 2 (Tickets 16 & 17). A guy behind me in the line bought his this week, his ticket was in the 3200's, so you have an idea of how many tickets were sold. I think it was sold out, there were people in the entrance with signs asking to buy tickets. However, the amphitheater was only about 95% full. Not 100%.
Starting time was 8:30 PM. Music began at around 9:20 PM. I don't remember the exact order of the songs, but I'll try to name them. They opened with the Rock Steady (RS) intro, and "Hella Good". From RS they played: "Hella Good", "Making Out", "Don't Let Me Down", and "Running". From Return of Saturn they played "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Simple Kind of Life". From Tragic Kingdom: "Spiderwebs", "Just a Girl", "Happy Now?", "Different People", "Sunday Morning" and "Don't Speak". The order of the songs was:

-Intro
-Hella Good
-Sunday Morning
-Ex Girlfriend
-Underneath
-Dont Let Me Down
-Bathwater
-Different
-New
-Simple
-Making Out
-Detective
-Happy
-Dont Speak
-Hey Baby
-Just A Girl
-Running
-Spiderwebs

The show ended at around 10:45 PM and had a 5 minute break at one point.
The missing songs? First off, Rock Steady! Hello? The name of the album, a great song, and they didn't play it. Start the Fire, it would've been a better choice for a mellow song than Running, which they played after the break. And Excuse Me, Mr. Those three songs would've made the show complete.
At one point during "Just a Girl", Gwen climbed one of the stage towers. It was awesome, and funny; she had a little bit of trouble figuring out how to get down. A touching moment was when she picked up a Puerto Rican flag from someone in the mosh pit, and started waving it. The crowd went wild.
There were no dancers, no backup singers, only the players sang, at least from where I was I didn't see any backup singers, only the trumpet/keyboard players (Sorry I don't remember their names) sang along with Gwen.
As in probably most shows at this venue, people were cutting in line towards the front, which made for a slow moving sea of people. Security could've handled that part better. Kinda sad to get ticket #16/3200's and not be able to get a place in the mosh pit, which was full by the time we got in. A good point though, the band waited until everyone was inside to begin the concert, which explains the 50 minute delay.
In summary, after waiting for 6 years and paying almost $100, the wait was worth it. It was an awesome show, with some room for improvement. In a scale of 1 to 10, satisfaction 10! I'm very happy I shelled out the money, waited the time and stood in line being cut off by morons left and right, just to see No Doubt on stage. Can't wait for the next one.
