AnamachaI haven't gotten much sleep in the last few days.
This is why.
Thursday last we acquired a new puppy. The young dachshund walked up to me when I was watching Ariann at the playground at her school. She seemed to like me a lot, she liked my daughter Ariann as well; hell, she's a puppy so she liked everyone.
Hijinks ensued, with the dog tearing around the playground with a gaggle of kids chasing her.
I was talking to a man on the board of directors at the school, and he said that this is not the first time the dog had turned up at the school. She had gotten into the school before, looking for food and/or companionship. The previous owners apparently didn't didn't do anything effective to keep the dog: They put a collar on her, kept it very tight, and tied her out. We're thinking that there was some neglect involved, if not outright abuse. Not only was there a very tight collar, but there was a raw and scabbed spot on her chest -- indicative of her pulling at a tie-out.
This past Sunday we cruised the neighborhoods around the school. We saw no posters about a lost dachshund, not a single one. And we looked for about an hour and a half. We also looked on a few local forums online, and didn't see anything there either.
We feel that we've done everything that could be reasonably expected of people who find a dog that didn't start as theirs. That, coupled with the neglect issue, lead us to believe that she's ours now.
Ariann loves Rocquette. Shoshi, our big dog, it thrilled to have a playmate. She's getting along with the other critters in the house just fine, really, though the cats still don't know what to think.
So now we have three dogs again!
