$HOLIDAY wishlist stuff

Dec 14, 2007 16:00

Alright, I'll fall for it. I've been sitting on this post for at least a week now. I ganked this from deyaniera who is in general a pretty hoopy frood. Good writer, too. Anyway, I just realized it's less than two weeks to, you know, Christmas and all. And I've done nearly nothing, and so far as I know nearly nothing is happening, either, due to lack of fundage. What little money we have is going to make sure the holiday is special for 8 year old Ariann.

So I present to you this meme, in hopes that something can come of it. And yes, I'll be looking for other people's wishes that I can fulfill!

I realize that this is a little late, but to be perfectly honest I don't care if anything happens "in time for Christmas." After is fine too!

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf-to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Step Three: My Wishes
1. Anything from my Amazon wishlist. I do not mind used books or music!

2. Kettle corn! You know, that stuff that you get at fairs, State and otherwise (faires too!). It's that sweet yet salty concoction. I get it so rarely yet I loves it so much! I also love popcorn with with chocolate and nuts in it, or with parmesan cheese and olive oil ... but I have an especial fondness for KETTLE CORN. edit: The microwave stuff doesn't do it for me. It's got to be The Real Thing.

3. Art! I loves me some art, especially if you created it yourself. I love owls, trees, the moon, fire, all manner of mythical creatures, the color red (the deeper the better) and any deep colors, really. This includes stories or poems you've written. Or photographs you've taken!

4. Games! I have a pretty high-end PC, so odds are it'll run that game you just finished and are looking to get rid of. Lately I've been getting most of my games from Half Price Books (cos they're cheap), so I've likely not played anything too recent.

5. Music! I sure do loves me some music. I have quite a lot on my hard drive, but am always looking for more. MP3s are fine, mix CDs are cool too. For more information than you ever wanted on my musical tastes, please visit the appropriate page on my Wiki.

6. We are in desperate need of a new TV. We currently use an NEC dating from 1972 or something absurd like that. It no longer displays the color red, so we have to watch tv in a weird sort of green-tinted black and white. It's very blurry, as well.

7. New glasses for me, plus an exam -- it's been two years or so since my last one, and my current glasses are starting to hurt my eyes. I have to take my glasses off frequently, so as to rest my eyes.

8. The gift of touch! I'm not sure how you'd give this, unless it was through a massage of some sort. But in my childhood I was starved for touch, and I still crave it now. If you see someone on the street that looks like me, give them a hug!

9. A job! I can do graphic design, web design, drawing, pc maintenance and repair, networking, troubleshooting. I can also do armchair psychology stuff (Qualifications: I used to have a double major with computer science and psychology; delving into people's minds has always been one of my first loves, and I love to listen, as well), as well as advocacy work for brain injuries.

10. Chocolate! I love dark chocolate, and the imported stuff seems to be the best. I like truffles too, and anything exotic.

And for an extra bonus --

11. Pay it forward! Even if you can't gift me any of the things on this list, I'm sure someone has done something nice for you. So it's your turn to do something nice for someone else -- even if that someone else isn't me. In other words, pay it forward.
