Okay, I've been calling the dentist's office, and they are evidently too busy to talk to me. I've called 3 times, been on hold for 20 min, and I can't do that any more. So I'll ask my question here ( Read more... )

It is entirely possible, but I must ask- is your mouth around the acrylic tooth swollen- your gums, and does your tongue feel swollen?

no, not really. I swelled a little after the extraction, of course, but it's mostly gone now. DDS said I was healing up very nicely, and any swelling I have at this point is perfectly normal.

Tongue not swollen at all.

Why do you ask?

Because generally, with dental allergies like that- to acrylic and the like- you'd have instant itching, burning, and swelling, and also often lumps would form.

So if all you're experiencing is a bit of stomach upset and a little mouth-oddness, it's probably just 'getting used to the new thing' time, and not actual allergy.

Also, it is true that acrylic allergies are nearly non-existant, and the acrylic that dentists use, because it is completely hardened before they put it in your mouth, is almost hypoallergic.

You're probably just sick, unfortunately. Sorry!

blerg, that is what I was afraid of. The two things cropped up at around the same time, though.

Thing is, though, that I've had this stuff in my mouth for ... about 4 weeks now, and neither the mouth-oddness OR the stomach business has gone away.

BTW, the acrylic that they used here was some powder in a squeezy bottle, that they mix with some fixative from an eyedropper. It's goopy when it goes in the mouth; but it did harden fairly quickly.

The thing that causes the acrylic allergy is the powder- if you'd had the allergy, you would've reacted at the dentist's office, while you were in the chair.

It is possible that because the acrylic tastes nasty to you, it is causing you to drool more, and that is causing you to produce more saliva, and *that* is throwing off the balance of your stomach acids.

Try taking a tums or alka-seltzer and see if that helps. If it does, that's what the issue is. (I know from TONS of dental work what all can be causing icks. *le sigh*) Hope it helps!

well, I've taken tums when the problem was REALLY bad and they didn't really help appreciably. I have one of those "pink pills" -- generic pepto pills, I think -- that I took recently. we'll see.

No tums handy, alas.

thanks for the help :)

I can't use Tums- they never help me, either. The only things I've found that help are Maalox and Alka-seltzer, which are both kinda expensive.

Hopefully the pepto generic stuffies will help. :D And you're welcome! I've been there, so I can SOOOO relate.
