vacation notes part 2

Dec 29, 2006 15:40

okay, it's been about a month since I posted the last bit of vacation news. So here's the next bit:

THINGS I REALIZED & DID on VACATION
17.nov.06 -- 20.nov.06

16. I have needed this for so long. I think I need to do this again -- at least once a year.

17. This place is amazing.

18. The second fire I built? Even better than the first. By the way -- on future trips, I need to bring fire tools. At least a poker. I'm lucky I had the long metal bar in my trunk.

19. There's something so relaxing & wonderful about a campfire -- building it, lighting it, tending it, watching it, and so on. But mostly the tending part. It's primal. And they're very handy to have when your propane stove runs out of gas unexpectedly!

20. Things started getting uncool here when the party convoy showed up. They left, but in its wake was the 20 foot party trailer. They haven't started making that much of a racket yet, but I can hear them setting up camp -- quite clearly. In the dark. All 5-6 of them. The whole thing makes me nervous, which is something I don't want to be, not out here. (turns out these guys were from some Baptist church -- their trailer was marked as such)

21. Need a hatchet, too. Or an axe.

22. There's too many people here now. Church groups, gay groups, large families, kids, etc. I came here to get away from it all -- what is up with all the people? At least they were all quiet last night -- mostly. Except for the cars. And the alarms.

23. It seemt hat the only time I can really get away is on hikes.

24. At Festivals, CMA events or the otherwise Pagan campouts I'm used to, it's different. There you've got religion & ideology in common with all the people there. There's also a feeling of "we've all been oppressed together, so we're sticking together." Here -- nothing. We're all human, yes. But that's not enough on its own.

25. I think I saw a fox! Well, I saw a flash of red, low to the ground. And another rabbit or hare. No deer this time.
