So ... anyone know anything about bicycle-riding?

It's a slow road. But you remember that post I made a little while ago, about my weighing over 300 poundsWell, today I started doing something about it. A week ago we got a bike for me -- a cheap 26" men's Shocker, nuclear green in color, by Next. And today I started riding it ( Read more... )

I got a bike because bike-riding is esomething that I actually enjoy, rather than something like walking for the sake of walking. That seems like exercise, and as such is anathema to me.

thanks for the tips, too!

oh, and I did get a better seat already -- bought that with the bike. Got gloves and a bag and a chain as well. Already had the bike hat.

My neighbor across the street has gone from big guy to skinny guy in a single year of bike riding. He's got one of those recline type bikes and rides it every afternoon.

Yeah you! I recommend investing in a gel seat. You can get a relatively inexpensive one that slips over your current seat. My mom swear by them.

Also, just aside on the weight-loss, I'd also recommend taking your measurements to track your progress. I've been making healthier choices with my life for the past 2 months now, and after an initial 7 lbs of weight loss in the first two weeks, I haven't dropped another gram. I was getting supremely discouraged until a friend recommended doing this, and now I can actually see progress in loss of inches even though the scale numbers aren't going down.
