This is the way the bill was worded, from the Secretary of State website.

Ballot Language
"The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

Brief Explanation
HJR 6 would provide that marriage in Texas is solely the union of a man and woman, and that the state and its political subdivisions could not create or recognize any legal status identical to or similar to marriage, including such legal status relationships created outside of Texas.

And that's at least mildly confusing, even for one who had not had the words "gay marriage bill" bludgeoned into their heads. ANd those three words, coupled with "Proposition 2" are easier to remember than the above stuff.

As for the ex -- yes, I think they have similar rules in Texas. She knows his SSN, she knows his last reported location ... and for all we know about him, he mght be dead by now. Wouldn't be surprised if he pissed someone off enough to kill him.

But they forgot the "other than as described as a man and woman" at the very end. It says that the state is prhoibited from recognizing any leagl status identical or similar to marriage. end. so all marriages, gay or otherwise, are now illegal. ...which could come in handy for me if I ever get my mind made up about my own marriage!

lol! interesting point; I wonder if the initial "marriage consists only of the union of one man ..." counts, and would make what you're describing redundant.
