I think it was summer of 2003 where I had something like three jobs and two internships going at the same time (and I think a few summer classes so I could finish two majors on time). I used to wear as a badge of honor my ability to overextend myself -- it was fun to tell people I rarely slept. Of course I was full of crap -- I worked maybe 10 or so hours a week at each thing and had the flexibility to call out frequently, which I did. I got plenty of rest to wake up and have the energy to complain that I never got rest.
Now I really am overextended, and I really do have to fulfill all of my commitments, because I'm not a happy-go-lucky junior in college and my debts are not hypothetical. And I really don't sleep -- two weeks ago I was clocking maybe two hours every other day. But while the not usually sleeping during the week part is pretty majorly crappy, I can't say that I have much else to complain about. I'm going to Europe in three weeks.
Other interesting things about the last few weeks some of which I'll probably forget in the future if I don't somehow get it all down:
-- My friends Jason and Lane got married two weeks ago, a year after they met, right where they met: on the back steps of the Short Stop during Vegan Happy Hour. They told people to come in plain clothes and were going to have an online-ordained minister marry them, but at the last minute she backed out (I don't know why . . . she was at the ceremony). At a loss for an officiator, I stepped in, got some help researching wedding ceremonies on someone's iPhone, and married my friends. I didn't do too badly -- everyone said I did a really nice job. I led the vows, read a really nice Apache wedding benediction, and ended with "By the power vested in me by Vegan Happy Hour," which got some joyful laughs. It was nice to do something big and good for them -- they were so sweet and nervous and I had to bite back tears a bit.
-- After two years, my band finally released its first EP. And we got a ton of good
pictures (I like my hair in this one):
It was also our two-year performing anniversary and the week of my birthday. I got a cake. It was really, really fantastic.
-- You might have guessed this from the title if you're a fan, but thanks to Julianne I've discovered
Arrested Development. Unfortunately it came around the same time I discovered I was very
white, but I've been embracing that okay.
-- Oh, and I've been hanging out a lot with Julianne -- but not in the last week. Which is hard on my
-- Yoga, which I try to do at least twice a week, though really I should be doing three. Julianne comes with me to beginner and I do more advanced classes on my own. Yesterday was the first time I did it in over a week so I've been pretty mushy, though my
arms have stayed surprisingly well-maintained.
-- I've discovered this great new band called Siouxsie and the Banshees. I'm also really into Max Headroom and Reaganomics.
Ok, that's enough LJ for now. See you when I get back from Europe probably.
