Since my Arcanum savegames decided to corrupt themselves and no longer function (sigh), I'm back to working on my book again. The little two-week break I've taken from it has helped me immensely (finally managed to reconcile a particularly troublesome plot point) so I'm quite pleased about that. Things are chugging right along, but I can't seem to put out much in a single sitting anymore. Perhaps it's for the best... when my writing sessions get long and drawn-out, it usually starts sounding contrived and forced.
Still searching for [better] work despite the job I got at the university; it's an okay job, but it just doesn't really give me enough hours and the pay is low. I do get to ride the city bus for free and I get a free meal for every four hours I work, however, so it does counterbalance a little compared to the job at Dial where I was having to pay for gas and food more often.
I do have a line on something that potentially pays better (a job transcribing records from paper to computer) which is a quasi-temporary position that lasts a few years, which, with careful saving and miserly behavior, could grant me the money needed to get the hell out of the South. One can only hope.
I miss my computer. Especially my music. And I want to indulge in a Nanoha marathon (all 26 episodes of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and Nanoha A's) but all of this wondrous stuff is locked away on my hard drive which sits in a white OEM box, cradled in anti-static foam, waiting for the new PC to arrive.
Apropos of the new PC, it lacks a video card. I'm looking for an inexpensive card to toss in there so I can run the computer (though not necessarily play games) until I can save up the cash to purchase the GeForce 8600GTS that I really want. If anyone has a spare PCI-E x16 card they'd be willing to part with for around thirty or forty dollars, let me know.
Sleep.
