Oh, cosplay~

Jul 09, 2013 14:41

You know, sometimes I wonder why I do this, lol. I mean, I really enjoy dressing up, sure, but for someone who, at least for the summer months of the year, considers cosplay a hobby, sometimes I really question whether or not I'm actually cut out for it. :P ( Read more... )

baseball is a fandom now, me being dumb, cosplay

=/ I do that, too - especially with plain-clothed cosplays. I know I can't make better fitting clothes than I can buy for those types of things.

On another note, I burned polymer clay today trying to make a blue barrette. x.x

I think even with the frustrations, it's really about the final product and having fun. ^.^ Good luck with putting everything together! ^.^ (And I'll see you soon! *hugs*)

*nods* Yeah, you're definitely right about that. I'm pretty happy with how some of the stuff is coming together, too. (Jeremy's Kagari outfit, especially. :D With the added bonus that he plans to actually wear the majority of the pieces again at some point. ^_~)

Are you going to try again, with the barrette? XD;;

(dlfldfdjkhfjkdh So soon! *hugs* ^__^)

I'm glad things are coming together. Sometimes it's nice to get cosplay clothes that you can also throw into the mix of normal clothes.

Barrette is done. The second set browned a little at the edges, but it's okay. (I totally had the oven set right and everything. BLAH.)

Well, I am just incredibly impressed that you managed to make the barrette at all! It sounds awesome. :D

And you will be relieved (:P) to know that I now have a pair of black pants for my Psycho Pass costume! And I can wear them to work, too~ I think the only major thing left for me now is the hair for Korra. *nod* ;)

*bounces* Con is soon! :D

That's the main reason I never cosplayed, while I really want to. :/ I'd just buy the whole costume online, because I can't decide which item would do good with another, etc.

And I really think it might be funnier to put all the things together rather than just buying the whole set. :)

I've bought a few complete outfits online, but I've honestly found that it's pretty much never possible to buy the whole thing online? There are always things like shoes/wigs/accessories that you have to find on your own... And with a lot of the anime cosplay stuff available, things are made out of the wrong materials, or the colors are off, so... Yeah, it's kind of hit or miss, I've found, with the online stuff.

It's still possible though, depending on the outfit, to find a good option online, so... IDK - I don't think you should rule cosplay out as a fellow non-sewer! ;) It really is fun to dress up at cons... :D :D :D

Hey the hunt is always the most exciting part! I myself enjoy finding things online or in the thrift store and altering. I can sew a little bit but am not a pro at it and it takes me a while (which makes me nervous that I'm starting to sew more of my cosplays). I've definitely spent hours looking at the smallest things for cosplays, but those are the things that make a cosplay better than others that are thrown together. Your effort will show through. It's part of the thrill and gratification.

Sometimes i think that conventions should have a Project Runway: Cosplay contest, kinda like FaceOff that require you to make a costume within about 3 days. That would be really fun because I sometimes feel like that's what we do with our full time jobs limiting our cosplay time. 4+ cosplays! Wow! Which additional cosplays are you doing this year?

Yeah, you're totally right about the hunt. ;) And I absolutely feel that way when things are going well and I'm able to find things that work! LOL. I was having really bad luck for a while, but actually... A few things I'd ordered off ebay came in this week that do actually fit, so now I'm feeling much better! ;) You're right about those little details though - it does make all the difference sometimes!

And lol, yeah, I know what you mean! ;) I've been kicking myself lately, just since I've known that this stuff was coming up for months now, and somehow... It always feels like I'm doing everything at the last second. >_> And well, I was counting Jeremy's costumes into that number, so Yayoi and Kagari from Psycho pass, and then Korra and Bolin...and then whatever new costume we decide on for Dragoncon, which is still up in the air. (I think I was overly ambitious this summer - I initially wanted to do 2 new costumes for both of us for Dragoncon too, but now I'm thinking we'll just do Korra one of the days there instead. :D)

I love your cosplays! (From what I've seen) you do these wonderful pieces that look exactly right and are also capable of complex actions, like walking down stairs! :D

Plus, your couple costumes are AWESOME.

SEWING IS UNNECESSARY. \o/

Aww, thank you! :D It's just one of those things where I know that if I had the patience/talent for sewing (and a sewing machine? :P) things would turn out way better? I think I've managed okay for Dragoncon this year though. :D (I have a Tardis dress! I can't wait for you to see it~ :D)

Anyway, yes, thank you! <333

OMG YOU HAVE A TARDIS DRESS! *flappy hands of excitement!*

I can't wait to see it!!!!

And really, I think you've gotten to a level of cosplay at which you are comfortable, and that's totally great! Some people are on the "sewing" tier and some people are on the "this sweatshirt that I just put on looks vaguely like this one character!" tier. And it's all fandom, so you don't need to pressure yourself! ♥

I DO, I DO!! :D And I have a hair flower thing that lights up, and the dress has a big floofy petticoat and I really can't wait to wear it~ \^o^/

*nods* You're totally right. I mean, there was a point in time where I thought I would never dress up at cons - I thought I was too tall and that nothing would suit me and now... I've managed to put together a couple of costumes every year for a few years, and I really enjoy it, so... Yes. :D
