I was swooning over Sam and Dean in this one-a lot of it for the reasons you've listed here! To me this was such a great display of the very foundation of their relationship: up or down, in the end they always put the other above anything else, and sometimes that manifests itself in putting faith in the other like they wouldn't put it in themselves

But yes. That HUG. I nearly died. :D And I do think that everything that happened with Benny here really shows how far Sam and Dean have come in S8. And how they've (hopefully) gotten past all the mistrust that plagued them at the beginning of the season... I also think that for Sam, his animosity towards Benny is mostly tied to the fact that he sees Benny as something Dean is keeping from him, you know? That, and just plain jealousy, since Dean has made it clear how much he trusts Benny, how Benny has never let him down, etc. So to see Sam rise above all that and like you said, get back to his old self, and accept Benny is just really, really beautiful. <3
I was also pretty moved by Dean and Benny's conversation before he goes back to Purgatory. *__* IDK, something about that drawl, and the word 'rodeo'... I just kind of melt every time. ;)
I totally agree with you about Sam's past issues with Benny.
You know, I couldn't help but giggle when I thought of what fanfic would make of all this: Benny's obviously crazy in love with Dean and they had something special, but Sam is Dean's true love, and Sam is jealous of Benny, asks Dean to leave Benny and go back to Sam, because Dean is Sam's true love as well, and Benny sacrifies himself to get Sam back to Dean, because he's the tragic figure and he knows those two belong together, drama, drama, drama.:D
Irritatingly enough, it's happened to me a few times, when I click on the 'picture' link to choose an icon, due to the fact that LJ stole all my icon info, lol. Word to the wise, don't click that link, because your comment will not be there when you return! ^_~
But anyway, yes, I totally agree about that drama, lol. <3 Benny is such a tragic hero here. *sigh* If I wasn't so in love with Sam and Dean, I'm sure I'd be writing crazy Benny fic! ^_~
Yes, I like Benny too! And I like how they've written his character, plus the actor is doing an excellent job. Dean and Benny certainly have chemistry. Maybe it's a Jensen thing, because I think he's got chemistry with Misha as well.
But just to make it clear, Sam and Dean are the motherfucking OTP.:)
I think it's a fair point that it could be a Jensen thing. :D Or maybe a Jensen/Misha/Ty thing, because as far as charisma in general goes, all three of them kind of have it down, you know? On their own, as well as with whoever they're on screen with :D
