Man!!!!!! Crazy stuff happening at St. Catherine right now. If you don't know make sure you pick up a church bulletin. Its been going on for a long time i know but last week the priest told us flat out that they are over 350,000 dollars in debt. Also for those of you who know Elaine she was forced to quit or they were going to fire her anyways. Over 20 people have been let go due to cut backs. The head youth minister Archie's hours have been cut from full time to 18 hours a week. That I feel is one of the biggest blows. They cut the funding to the youth program!! Not only are the kids that are in the program going to suffer but so are the ones that wanted to maybe participate in it. What thats going to do is one! Make kids less interested in participating in perish activities and two force them to go to another perish that has a better youth program which in turn is going to make their parents go to other programs which means less perish contributers.
Something needs to be done. I for one am writing a letter to the diosecence 3 times a week to ask for help from them. If some of you wish to that please do. Also I want to get as many people as i can so we can approach the perish and ask what can be done to help! This is a serious situation one that we can not turn our back on. If you talk to people around the perish they try and play it off like its no big deal. WE need to come together as a perish community and as a family in christ and help.
Look guys I don't mean to be preachy but this is bad. For those of you in the perish.... its your perish no matter where you go to try and hide from this situation it will always be your perish your spiritual family and the same goes for people away at college. Some of you go to newman centers at ucr and other campuses but St. Catherine's is your is still your perish. Those places are just established to help continue your faith since you are away from your spirtual family's. For those of you that go to St. Edwards or Francis pray for us and if you can help out please do so. For some of us like me we were baptized there, given first communion there, went to first confession there, and confirmed there. Its hard to see a place thats been apart of you for so long be in such dire need.
