automatic for [other] people

Yesterday, I drove an automatic for the first time in my life.

I read (most of) the manual. At long last I figured out what the different a/c switches were supposed to do for a car whose a/c actually worked. I drove all the way to Greenhills for practice (and got scandalized at the gas guzzling appetite of automatic cars). I even attempted, for the nth time, to understand the science of changing tires.

So today, my mom gave me official permission to drive her car to work. This morning, as I drive to our office parking lot, smoothly shifting gears with only the gas pedal to think about, thrilled about learning a new skill, grateful I arrived at my destination in one piece, a thought occured to me.

I left my driver’s license at home again.
