So let's talk about my awesome week! I've had zero motivation to write about it but I figure something this epic needs to be talked about. And well, before I get too wound up to put in the concentration for it.
Monday:
I woke up at 7am so that I could take a shower and we could head out to the beach. Of course that morning we had to take the dog to the vet to get three vaccines so that he could be boarded. So a trip to some random vet in the middle of nowhere then off to put him in another random place for a few days. When you're in a pinch you'll do just about anything. But it all turned out to be okay for him. Stopped by my great aunt's house on the way to drop off something then the trip started. I was driving, seriously didn't get 30 miles down the road until I noticed the car was driving weird. Yes that's right. A flat tire out in the middle of nowhere. I'm talking nothing but an old abandon house and a field full of nothing but weeds. No idea where we were at so the logical thing is to get on the phone and find out. Not even being stranded for give minutes when two men pulled up in a really old beat up red pick up. Let's just state that for the record I was pretty freaked out. Two women out in the middle of nowhere, two men... some things could happen. But luckily they were helpful and it turns out there was a guy who did tires three miles in the direction we had just come.
I later came to find out that we were in Burnsville, North Carolina which is nothing but a yellow traffic light, two run down convenient stores and this tire guy. Meanwhile this little old man that had nothing else better to do decided that he was going to wait with us and tell us his life story. I called him a chick magnet by all of the stories he was telling us about woman. Finally got the tired fixed and turned right back around to have all new tires put on the car because they needed it bad. Three hours later and we were back on the road. Though I was pretty out of it due to lack of eating and being out in the heat so I let my mom drive. The whole time we talked about how 'oh we could be stuck out here'. Yet before you know it, 50 miles down the road the car totally shut off sans the breaks and we were stuck again.
Out in the middle of nowhere for a second go round it was like a horrible movie or a dream. Lucky this time I actually had water with me but shitty service. Getting on the phone to call 911 to get highway patrol to come out and meet us. Being out there for another two hours until a wrecker came to take the car to god knows where. Then a ride in the back of a state trooper car to a hotel for the night. The area that the hotel was in we kind of knew but it was still a very bad situation to be in. You don't just find people who can work on a Jaguar out in the middle of nowhere. So we were under the assumption that the car would have to be towed back to Charlotte but regardless we had to be at the lawyers the next afternoon by 2.
Tuesday:
Woke up early again to take a shower and eat some breakfast only to get a call that there was someone that could work on the car in town. Meanwhile called Enterprise to come pick us up so that we could get a rental. They have a pretty fucked up policy might I add. No cash. No bank cards. But yes, we will take your major credit card and a money order? Sketch. The car ended up being put in my name and it wasn't even the size of a small bathroom. But hey it was wheels and we needed to go. Made it to the lawyers ten minutes late but it seemed to be okay. After a few hours there I drove the rest of the way to the beach only for the rental to start making a funny noise on the highway. Uh, not cool. But whatever we got there so I can't really complain. We went out to dinner with the folks that were buying our condo and might I add it was some pretty tasty eats. After dinner and way too much talking we headed out down to the strip just to check things out and see what was up. Which ended up giving us another late night but I really couldn't complain.
Wednesday:
Yet another semi earlyish morning but it wasn't aweful. Got the packing done in a matter of a few hours then went down to the beach for a walk and look at the shells. Only said shells ended up cutting my foot open which I now think is infected. Not cool shells, not cool. Taking a shower and getting dressed we were going to go try out this new Mexican place. It was just a mind fuck of an experience. There was this weird line to get up to talk to the hostess where they had a DJ making the stupid people dance and holler. Not my cup of tea so then we decided to try Margaritaville. Two and a half hour wait to eat? Not thank you. Lucky there was a great Mexican place across the street that was nearly dead so that's where we ended up. Might I also add that their frozen ritas contain a shit ton of alcohol. Obviously these people knew that my week had been rough. It usually takes a few for me to feel anything but not even a third of the glass was down and I was feelin it hard. Good food and good service equal good things in my book.
I of course couldn't drive back across the street so I let my mom which was a bad idea starting out. Who randomly decides to do doughnuts in the parking lot when tipsy? The rest of the plan was to get some ice cream but we ended up walking in a store instead. Only to have the guy that worked there recognize us which ended up in another blab fest. Thank god it was almost closing time for them because I felt like I was never going to get out of that conversation. Sitting outside eating ice cream and watching tourist was pretty fun. But it also shows you how much things have changed. It made me really glad that we don't summer there anymore because of how many people there are. Heading back home I ended up going to bed pretty early.
Thursday:
Yet another early morning which I wasn't happy about but we still had to go take the rental back and get my mom's car. It all worked out in the end for us though and the trip home turned out fine. We even stopped by the tire place in Burnsville to let the guy know about the rest of our trip. Getting back home around five only to have to go and get the dog. By six I was wiped and so glad that we didn't have anything else to do. Ended up going to bed early which was the final step to that trip.
As you can see it was a grand ol' time and I was super stoked about that trip.
