In Venezuela it seems like the true national sport is to follow beauty pageants. Venezuela doesn't stand out in any sports but the Miss Venezuelas sent to Miss World and Miss Universe always end up in a good place. A few years ago there was a former Miss Universe as a candidate to be president, she was first mayor of an area of Caracas, then governor of Nueva Esparta and then went for the top place, but didn't get it. I was told it was partly because she went and joined one of the two old political parties, both of them now infamous, apparently, instead of going as independent. Don't trust me in these political things though... However, I was talking with a messenger buddy of my mum's before and he was the one who told me about Miss Universe (he's Venezuela and lives in Canada). He told me that Miss Venezuela was forbidden to talk about politics and the question she was asked was "What is the greatest problem in your country right now and what would you do to solve it" or something like that... I'd really like to know what she answered... So now two people I've talked to are blaming Miss Venezuela's 5th or 4th place (I can't remember) on politics... Whatever... Anyway, the girl was very pretty obviously, and I like her dress.
I was wondering... In whatever your country, are the Miss [insert your country] much followed? The Miss Venezuela following even seems excessive... Oy! Diana! Mexico was also in the top 5...
and I like how she looks here in denim, more natural...
http://www.santabanta.com/gallery1.asp?mid1=11008 I'd really like to watch a Miss Venezuela with my family. I was told they all get together, bitch about the contestants, and do the round of questions with the people there and they answer joking. My cousin Daniela (petit_lezard) when asked where she'd like to live if she didn't live in Venezuela said Haiti because that's where all the ice-cream men came from and she really liked ice-cream or something like that... They declared her the winner for that answer. That was in 2001, the Miss Venezuela is round September, and we were all in Margarita for Christmas that year, the first day we went to the beach we took a picture of her posing next to an ice-cream car (they're small and you push them around whilst making the bells sound). And this year my cousin Andreína, who came visit us with her daughter, kept joking about the Miss Venezuela who kept saying "soy muy faliz" (it should be "feliz", happy) when she got the crown... I remember one year that during the adverts in the beginning of September they kept putting alternately the Misses from the different states (Miss Amazonas, Miss Mérida, Miss Nueva Esparta, Miss Zulia, Miss Vargas...)
Miss Venezuela, this year's and general about the contest.
