the voice of frustration

Remember when they said they'd address their offensive woes during the off-season and then signed Matthews, a player with one good season, scratch that, one good month during his entire career for $50,000,000?
Yeah, that was kind of funny, and by that I mean tragic.

Last 5 games... 4 total runs.

Anyway, I can't say I'm really surprised. Look at the lineup. Not much there to strike fear into the hearts of pitchers. And now that Vlad and Kendrick are out, I think teams like KC and Washington actually have more potent lineups.

BTW, why is Matthews leading off?
I wonder what he'd have to do for me to actually not cringe when I hear his name. He makes me long for the days of Finley, simply because of the fact that we were only stuck with him for a year. 5 years of Matthews? I wonder how many of those he'll actually play. Can you really see him starting at 37 years old?

And since I'm rambling, I'll throw in this piece of blasphemy. I'm afraid it might be time to trade some pitchers. It's pointless holding a team to 3 runs if you can't score 1. I'm not sure how his extension was worded, but it seems the best bet is to trade Shields, which would suck, but what are your options? Lackey, Weaver and K-Rod should be considered off limits. Colon you're not going to get jack for with the size of his contract and his shoulder. You're not going to get much for Escobar either with his spending most of his time on the DL. Santana's been throwing like crap so can't imagine his stock is very high at the moment. That basically leaves Shields as true trade bait (although Saunders is young and throwing well, he might be another option). Personally, I'd hate to see either of those two go, but Matthews was not the answer and scoring 4 runs over 5 games needs to be a wake up call.
