Dinner and a movie...Babette's Feast

Feb 09, 2008 21:02

I am a huge fan of Isak Dinesen, I won't lie. I think that she is a tremendous storyteller, and a genius in the portrayal of human nature.

If you haven't seen this movie, or think that foreign films are not your cup of tea, I'm begging you, here and now, to get your hands on this movie as quickly as you can and watch it.

REALLY watch it.

I'm sitting here in tears, after having watched it, and the tears, believe me, are ones that are wept as the result of pure magic, and pure joy, and of having my very soul touched, via my overfilled heart.

Old Martina: [after learning Babette spent 10,000 francs on the dinner] "Now you'll be poor for the rest of your life."
Babette: "An artist is never poor."

It's beyond wonderful--you'll love it, I promise.
