Just got back from the vet's...
He's in perfect health, he took his wormer without a struggle, he got his shots...
And HE'S NEGATIVE!!!!
I wasn't really worried--not really--but he just tugs at my heart so that I wouldn't be able to really rest until I was sure.
I like this vet. I found out last week that our old vet had passed away at the beginning of this month (she had pancreatic cancer), and I was a little nervous about a new vet, but this office is GREAT--friendly, clean, quiet, wide-open and light...
And of course everyone got one look at him and went NUTS.
Paul pointed out a neat thing, too, and that is that when they had to take Rafiki's blood (always a trauma), they did it in a back room near the lab, so that the baby never has the chance to associate YOU with the trauma. The lab assistant brought him back in when he was finished with the blood test and handed him to me, and he immediately curled up against my neck and went quiet--he knew he was OK, and Mommy was there to keep him safe. So that was nice--I could feel like a comforter rather than the person who handed him over to be tortured! It was like the door closed to the scary room, and he was back with us, and he was suddenly totally OK.
He was a good, brave boy, and I was so proud of him.
The doc said that he might be a little sleepy after his shot, but he's currently running around, playing hard with his Tiki beads, like not a thing in the world happened.
He goes back in three weeks for round two, but I feel better now knowing that he's completely OK, and we can relax....
