Today's adventure

Dad called and asked me if I knew a good locksmith.

Now, I've gotta tell ya, I have issues with locks. The only person I have ever locked out of my home, car or place of business is ME. Anyone who has even a modicum of intelligence would probably be better able to break into a place than I would, because I am made of dumb when it comes to that sort of thing.

So, mostly, I don't do locks.

So the deal was that the doorknob on the door between the house and the back porch was locked, could not be unlocked, and wouldn't even turn. Totally frozen up--which is odd because it's not even close to being cold here today (even though the wind is threatening to take the roof off). But that lock wasn't moving.

So I called a locksmith, who wanted $95 to come out, $30 to unlock the door, and $79 if he needed a new lock.

Um, no.

And maybe I'm in the wrong business--$200 for what would probably turn out to be a half-hour's work sounds like good work if you can get it.

So anyhow, I got myself together and went over to help out, and between the two of us, we were able to get the doorknob off and the door open. The knob is shot, and he needs a new one, but once he gets it, it should be easy peasy to put back together.

So that was how I spent my lunch hour--what did you do?
