WE VOTED!!!!

Nov 04, 2008 07:15

We were numbers two and three at our polling place--we conceded number one to a guy who had been there since 5:30....! His neighbor showed up at about 6:30 and saw him there, first in line, and inquired about how long he had been there. When he heard "5:30" the neighbor man said, "Are you nuts, man?"

The guy who was number one said, "I love my country."

I was so proud to be standing there.

By the time we left, the line stretched out far into the parking lot (and considering the fact that we got out of there at about 5 minutes after 7, when the polls opened, and the line had already serpentined its way about three curls around in the lobby of the township building and lined the meeting room as well), and it was an exciting thing to see.

They had three books this year, and as you signed in, the poll ladies checked off the signature and party affiliation, and Paul said that everyone he heard getting checked in--everyone--was registered Democrat.

I checked my vote about ten times before I hit the big yellow "CAST VOTE" button, just to make sure that there was none of that flipping that people were talking about.

And then I left the booth, ELATED to be a part of this, and to finally have it DONE.

The firehouse had a line out the door out to the street as well, and all the little side streets had cars parked up and down both sides, as far as the eye could see.

Now--it's going to be a long day, waiting for the results to come in.
