Is it a Dresser or a Chest?

About now, I'm wishing we had a good carpenter friend who could be coerced into constructing a dresser for me. We just spent about two hours picking up a birthday present for Jackson, and looking for *my* birthday present, the dresser. It's not easy. The stuff in a $300 price range looks cheapish, causing me to wonder how long it will last. But I just can't bear to go over that amount. I've been living with a small two-drawer dresser for the past...oh...10 years or so? My stuff just doesn't fit. I've always got a pile of clothes tossed on top of the thing because there's no room inside, and I get frustrated when I'm trying to close the drawers because inevitably, I have to remove something to do so.

We checked out our local and internet options. Internet was basically out because of the shipping issue. $130 for shipping? Please! Tonight, we stopped in at Bombay Company (not much selection) and, San Diego people may appreciate this, Jerome's. Of course, every time I say or think "Jerome's", I hear it the way it's sung in the commercials. Our trip to Jerome's reminded me that there was this guy I knew at Art Center who had gone to High School with the son of Jerome. I wish there were more to the story than that, but there isn't. Jerome's had stuff in our price range, but even they charge $65 for shipping. So now, if we decide to buy something from those guys, we need to talk someone with a big vehicle to drive up to the warehouse to help us pick the thing up. What a pain.

There's one more place we're planning to scope out, called Chester's. Oh dear. They are just over on University, so at least it's not a trek out to go look.

All of this lead us to our 8:30pm dinner. And me, wishing I had a carpenter friend. And I don't mean JC.
