tricky questions in standard forms

Dec 24, 2003 17:11

I see that the anafazim journal is abandoned, and it saddens me. Perhaps the last entry ("wormholes and haircuts") set a too high standard. Therefore, I will try to lower the standard now, hoping that more entries will follow ( Read more... )

1. Your parents kind of DO have middle names, don't they? Of course that's cheating, but still...

2. Aren't you afraid to publish your answers to secret questions like this, so that anyone will be able to break into all your accounts on the web? Although - well... Not everyone knows who you are, of course. :)

First of all, considering that a)not everyone knows who I am; b)I didn't specify the name of the web site in question; c)I didn't write my chosen ID there - don't you think that fearing that somebody will be able to break into my account based on the answer to the secret question is a little paranoid?

Second, middle names are a different matter. Otherwise, imagine how confusing it would be to put a man's name as a middle name for my mother.

Third, why aren't you writing e-mails? Did your fobia of long e-mails become worse? I permit you to write a short one (but just this time :)

It would be best, of course, if you could enter both the question and the answer. Then you could put in questions like "What are the prime factors of 188198812920607963838697239461650439807163563379417382700763356422988859715234665485319060606504743045317388011303396716199692321205734031879550656996221305168759307650257059 ?", which would be quite answer-proof. My personal favorite would be "What is your favorite password reminder question?".. although I have a feeling it won't hold that well.

P.S. I apologize for setting such a high standard.. but just as meaningless moments of frusration lead to a deafening burst of blind rage, random stupid ideas accumulate in my mind over time until they can't be contained anymore, and are poured out as a brilliant and coherent textual gem. I will do my best to write more often.

P.P.S. Who are you indeed?

Hi, Yuval!

I see drklaymen already uncovered my identity in an e-mail. What I heard about you is that you are the most brilliant person in the group. I guess this is a redundant piece of information, since it came after I read your post :-) Please continue posting "brilliant and coherent textual gems", and I will consistently try to lower the standard. Anyway, if you want more official biographic information about me, my homepage is still in Hebrew University (here in Northeastern I will be very surprised if they will arrange to link to it before I finish my postdoc), in computer science, under ~hanac.

"What I heard about you is that you are the most brilliant person in the group."

All lies and slander, of course.. and reality will be happy to testify in my defense (after being offered a suitable witness protection program).

Nice to e-make your acquaintance!

My pleasure ...

I like the verb "e-make". I think we should extend it to all human interaction activities. For example, "You e-looked great when I e-saw you yesterday".

Looking forward to future e-chatting with you!
