today i awoke to a chorus of chainsaws, looked out my window to see the street littered with fallen ash trees, sawdust flying through the air, more than twenty trees cut down on my block alone. wherefore? because of a small weavel who likes to bore into their bark and eat them from the inside out. each house on my street and in my comunity (east english village) had an ash tree planted on the portion of lawn nearest the street, an expensive campaign i assume, and now each and every tree is being cut down.
oh .... only in detroit could the govt select a tree to mass plant , only to realize a few years later that the tree has a natural enemy to which it is highly susceptible. coincidence or stupidity? i can't say... but my understanding of detroit is growing. this is a place that will either make your spirit swell and crest in defiance of strife, of the squalor running rampant, producing something beautious... or it will rob you of any spirit, and even any will to continue. i've seen so many lost, shambling souls  on dark city streets. once, my brother and i went to a concert at the shelter and we were accosted by a pregnant crack head, very litterally speaking...  she had few teath, the whites of her eyes yellow and her irises a murky blue brown... like an extremely old dogs eyes. she mumbled that she needed money for that bus and we doled otu our pocket change... he stomach was swollen. it reminded me of a starving south african, only it was too large to be from starvation... she almost made me cry.
this city almost makes me cry. but i love this city truely. those who survive its' horrors end up better people for it. so much raw talent exists in detroit, aesthetic rebellion to the filth incarnate...  the rebels are losing the fight ,though, i fear.

(my diction is a little weird today. not sure why, i appolagize if it's annoying)
