He was out on the prowl.
The Clubs. The Rack. He hadn't hungered for a bit. But now the succubus in his head needed more of the flesh than of the thought. Tonight the feeling of being in the wrong skin was picking at him more than ever. He needed. And it was time to answer that hunger.
He hated Valentine's Day. Hated the desperation it left on people's thoughts, on their hearts. It was like that awful scent that had catapulted him over the wall so long ago….
Believe, when you lie
You will never need to recognize yourself
To deceive
To remove all chance of doubt and be received
With your lie
Anael shuddered. He hadn't really thought of about it since his rebirth. The relationships he left behind in his past were James'. Needed to be left behind. James was dead.
He pushed it behind him.
The deception is complete when you concede
And decide
Time rippled around him, even as his aspect seemed to change. He walked now in a cloud of desire, as artificial as he was. Another ripple, and he was the brightest flame in a room of candles. He was the source they reached for.
To reject your lives, sacrificed to me
Penance can't absolve your sin
into me
Penance can't absolve your sin
Almost immediately ladies and men came to his outstretched arms. He was their saint. Their sin. Their savior. He cast out to feel their emotions as they came over to talk to the DJ they all loved.
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
He gloried in it, their raw desire was his to play with - shape and mold like the simple clay it was. He spun them little fates, as a generous God should. Attachments would form, some would go home this night alone, sure. But they would not stay that way. And many would not go home alone. Nor to sleep. That was the difference from before. Now he ensured that they would always love him, a beneficent leader.
Believe, when you lie
You will never need to recognize the source
Of deceit
This was different than before. Before he was but a child playing at being more than he was. A child trying to make the chains his to control.
To renew your faith in God
You must believe
in your lie
The Succubus laughed, calling him to reach out further, control more. But he was the one holding the leash, not the demon.
The redemption is complete when you conceive
And decline
To release your lives
Sacrificed to me
He ordered drinks from the bar, a round for all his new friends. They talked, idle words of worship of his last album, of his future music, of what the life must be like.
Penance can't absolve your sin, into me
Penance can't absolve your sin
He looked around the throng, as he decided which was to be rewarded this evening. Of whom would share his bed.
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
There, at the edge of the crowd was a face. He looked up and felt his heart stop.
Reap your life,
like you want to
recognize,
all you've come to
Gloria
Reap your life,
like you want to
recognize,
all you've come to
The girl was reaching to him, just as the others were, calling him, enjoying the rush and the throng. But there was no way she could be there. Gloria was torn apart by James’ followers, in their madness and poisoned rage, her entrails had been used to strangle her, even as they had torn her flesh asunder.
Reap your life
Veiled in shadow
Recognize
Soon he recognized the faces of others of his coterie. Of his doomed cult. They were amongst the clubgoers, reaching for him, their flesh melting into one as
Faces of the crucified
I can hear their screams tonight
Ever haunting me
Another head looked up then, a face that was nothing to him but wild staring eyes and rows of sharp teeth.
The Harvester of Eyes.
Burn your lie into me
He choked, feeling the poisons creep up through his body, his organs dying one at a time as it’s eyes poured into him. He could feel their fingers clutching at him, tearing at his flesh like thorns, piercing him again and again, drawing his blood in rivulets and streams.
Penance can't absolve your sin, into me
Penance can't absolve your sin
He woke up choking back a scream, covered in sweat. The body in bed with him just stirred and muttered something, beginning to wake. Anael reached a gentle hand and calmed it back to sleep with a gesture, before going to the bathroom to wash his face.
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
The Succubus laughed and struggled against her chains again. She knew one day he’d screw up and she’d be free. He silenced her then as he stared into the mirror. He was out there. Somewhere.
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
All your belief cannot absolve your sin
And Anael knew. His past was short on his heels.
