Day 1.5

Sep 06, 2007 18:21

Ok so I'm home, fed, and sitting on the couch and today is the end of day 1.5 of students. Yesterday was good, but having 20 Freshmen for 10 minutes and then 1 other Freshman for 10 minutes doesn't really count as a whole day.

Teaching is as awesome as it ever could be. Full of interesting surprises, like when I talked with a class about the racial/ethnic undertones of the movie 300, and a quick overview of the political messages there also. Awesome! I think that it blew the students' minds a bit, and I do love talking about topics that have no seemingly tie to mathematics.

For the courses, oh god the courses. My Algebra I-C will be awesome, more fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants style of class where I'll have more freedom, but my Geometry As will be a bit harder since I'm expected to be on the same page relatively as the other Geometry teacher. Oh well, live, learn, get paid, have fun.

And did I mention that I'm riding 20 miles a day on my bike? 20 miles! It's awesome and will be awesome even in the rain. My only negative thought on it is: fuck the north wind. Fuck it, and fuck it hard. Makes riding in certain areas like riding in a wind tunnel and slows me down when all I want is a beer at home.

20 miles!
