so, over the summer Jordan actually managed to get me completely addicted to an anime (yet she wouldn't watch Who with me?! rrr). I did always enjoy watching Inuyasha with her, but that was because we mostly liked to make fun of it. i never thought that i'd get into one for real, but this Ouran High School Host Club has proved me wrong. Basically, its about a girl who gets a special scholarship to go to a school for the sons and daughters of the rich and famous. While looking for a place to study, she stumbles on this host club thing and accidentally breaks a really expensive vase. cue the indentured servitude! She thinks these six guys are just your regular eccentric, arrogant rich kids, but eventually they all bond and whatnot, once the guys realize that A) she's a girl (this is not blatantly obvious at first - when they meet her, she looks rather like Harry Potter might if he had just gotten out of bed after a particularly bad week and an even worse night's sleep.) and B) she's a really cute girl! So the show is mostly about her being disguised as a guy (since the rest of the school doesn't know) and the various attempts made by most of the guys to win her over. But the other reason i like the show so much is for my personal favorite character...can you guess who it is? (bonus points if you can guess my second favorite, too.)
<--Haruhi, age: 15, high school freshman. Extremely studious young girl who stumbles into the world of the Host Club. Spends most of her time disguised as a guy for reasons specified in the first few episodes. Very caring, and very gender non-aware, she is liked by most everyone. She is very down to earth, and is called by the club president as the "natural type." Is generally not impressed by the excesses of the rich, preferring to keep things simpler, but does make an effort to get to know and understand her new friends.
<-- Tamaki, age: 17, high school junior. Self proclaimed Host Club King, he's basically an idiot. That's not really a bad thing, he just isn't very smart. But he is very open and genuine, wearing his heart on his sleeve. Comes off as a bit flaky, but actually experiences a lot of personal growth, and the deeper aspects of his character are well-explored. Is the half-French illegitimate son/heir to his father's empire, but he really cares more about making friends. Romantic, and elegant to the point of flamboyancy, he is certainly the most charismatic character. Has probably the biggest crush on Haruhi out of anyone, but is too slow to realize it. Has a surprisingly acute sense of morality and justice, and will not see anyone harmed (and i mean, *anyone*).
<-- Kyouya, age: 16 - 17, high school junior. Introduced by Tamaki as the "cool type," he is unquestionably the brains of this operation. Is Tamaki's best friend and right-hand man. Develops a bad rep as the "Shadow King" of the club, as he is constantly writing down expenses owed, running background checks on everybody, and never revealing all this knowledge to the group. Can also be very sneaky and manipulative, especially of Tamaki, when he needs to be, and seems to do things only if they suit his purposes. Is not the heir to his father's medical empire, as he is the youngest of three brothers. This pushes him to work extra hard to gain his father's favor, but this constant working leaves him little time for feelings. As a result, he can either come off as cool and collected, or just plain cold. Is not afraid to threaten people into submission, and has his family's private army at his beck and call. Haruhi suspects there is a more kind-hearted side to him than his cool exterior lets on, but he will not say anything definite on the matter.
<-- Hikaru and Kaoru, ages: 15, high school freshmen. Impish twins who are in the same class as Haruhi, which they will not hesitate to rub in the face of Tamaki, who they call their lord. They are nigh inseparable, thinking and moving and speaking as one. Hikaru appears to develop the second biggest crush on Haruhi, but doesn't know how to express this without getting aggressive. Kaoru is the gentler of the two, and doesn't seems to have quite the same feelings for Haruhi. They love to make people try to guess who is who, but no one can tell them apart, though Haruhi seems to be able to better than most. The two are generally very lonely, as they tend to shut out others, but they have opened up a lot since joining the club and especially since meeting Haruhi. They look out almost exclusively for each other, but will not fail the few they are close to.
<-- Honey, age: 18, high school senior. Despite looking (and sounding) like a five year old, Honey is the second oldest of the group. His existence seems to rely solely on the daily consumption of as many sweets, cakes, and chocloates as he possibly can fit inside himself. His most prized possession is his bunny, which only adds to his childish looks. He is also, however, an apparent karate and judo world champion, and he has really mad skills. Has a younger brother who looks up to this, but his admiration is negated by his hatred of Honey's shameless love for all that is cute and sweet. Often plays the cute child card to get out of trouble. Introduced by Tamaki as the "loli-shota type" which translates roughly to "Lolita-boy." Should appeal to girls who want to pretend they're pedophiles.
<-- Mori, age: 18, high school senior. The oldest of the group by two months, Mori is introduced by Tamaki as the "wild type." Is the polar opposite of his cousin, Honey. Tall, dark, and mysterious, he probably gets the least dialog and the least development. He speaks only when necessary, and even then doesn't say much. Serves more as Honey's bodyguard, as Mori's family has been in the service of Honey's family for two generations. He is extremely loyal, and will not do anything to hurt Honey, or anyone else, really. Is a world kendo champion, and has naturally sharp instincts that border on precognition, and equally sharp reflexes. Seems to be in the club for Honey's sake, but he will participate in things rather than watching, as Kyouya tends to do. Probably the hardest to read in the group, not only because of his taciturnity, but also due to his near-expressionless face, excepting his glaring eyes. Would be safe to presume that under his strong, silent shell, there is a very kind heart and a very caring man.
So, who do you think is my favorite? and can you also guess my second? think well on it.
