Library Observation & Rant

Feb 15, 2011 16:40

At library. Person next to me has a convenience store worth of junk food in bag(s). Eating with breaks to study - never seen that before.

I kid you not. Breaks from eating to study/read/research whatever the individual came to the library for. More eating going here on than Starbucks. Makes me really happy I ate a big lunch before coming.

Also? If you are going to add a vending cafe area to the library, don't add it near the limited table area in the adult section. Especially when the library is located 1 block from the Junior HS. Why yes, a good number of the tweens are going to descend on the library right after school. In my universe, 12-13 yr olds can only stay quiet so long. After a full day a school, expecting them to be anything but loud, hyper, and is totally delusional & unfair. To both them and anyone who seriously came here to study.

Would it have been so hard to put the vending machine area in/near the YA section? Honestly, they are the only ones that use it anyway.

As an architect, poor space planning works my last nerve. This is not one that would have taken a architect to figure out. Just someone who has ever been a tween. Seriously? Junk food and unsupervised kids go together like peanut butter & jelly. Who did they think was going to hang out in the vending area? If adults want a cafe, we go to an actual cafe.
