I had a really weird dream last night. It was a bizarre mishmash of Saiyuki and DragonBall Z. I guess that kinda makes sense, as both stories were inspired by Journey to the West--though Saiyuki is only a loose adaptation and DragonBall veers waaaaay away from the original story once Gohan shows up. Anyway, Frieza was in this dream, but he was actually a she. This takes a concept from a fanfiction I read a looooong time ago, where a member of Frieza's race is normally male, until it comes time for them to breed, in which case they temporarily change into a female.
It was really strange. Frieza had some sort of grievance with Sanzo-ikkou, and so wanted them either dead or captured. I don't remember many details beyond that, but I do remember wondering what the hell is wrong with me once I woke up. ^_^;;
I still find funny the counterparts between Saiyuki and DragonBall characters. Sanzo and Bulma are both based off of Tang San Zang, the two Gokus off of Sun Wu Kong, Hakkai and Oolong off of Zhu Ba Jie, and Gojyo and Yamcha off of Sha Wu Jing. The DragonBall characters, with the exception of Goku, were given all new names, while the Saiyuki characters' names are the Japanese pronunciations of the kanji in their original Chinese names. "Genjyo" isn't a translation of "Tang", though, even though "Sanzo" is a translation of "San Zang". The concept of the Sanzo-houshi is unique to Saiyuki and didn't come from the original story at all (except that "San Zang" is a traditional honorific for a Buddhist monk).
And on a slightly unrelated note, I've always loved this picture. Such a beautiful man. :3
