So, I decided to participate in that
Fandom Appreciation Challenge. Today we're challenged to make five recs from organised fic challenges. These are my recs.
What to Say to Rodney When He's Naked; Or How Aliens (Almost) Made Them Do It by
mousewitchySGA, McKay/Sheppard, NC-17
Quote to make you want to read: "Rodney couldn’t possibly think John woke up every morning with his hair done just so--no, there was effort there. If he were to put it in terms of legality, John would have to think of his hair as ‘premeditated’. Nobody got hair to look like his without time, effort, and precise amounts of meticulously applied hair-care products.
Nobody had hair like John’s in the armed forces unless they were secretly gay. It was like a rule."
Waking the World Away by
goldatameraFirefly, Jayne/Simon, no rating
This one is from a 2004 Firefly ficathon, and I only recently found and read it. Jayne, Simon, an injury, and a story. Very lyrical in some places, and I liked it a lot.
Rodney McKay, Cat Lady of Atlantis by
mklutzundermistletoe challenge, SGA, Gen
What can I say? People get turned into cats. It's made of awesome. Seriously, it's hilarious. Why would the Ancients even have such a machine? Because clearly, they were all crazy.
in this galaxy we left footprints on the moon by
annowreSG-1, Sam POV, NC-17, darkfic
I admit that I found this story through
_minxy_ and I'm so glad that I did. It's the future, Sam's made certain decisions, and those decisions weren't nice ones. Ori are on Earth. I'm a sucker for dark, apocafic, and this is a fantastic example.
Deconstruct by
mollitaSGA, PG
Another apocalypse story, (for the
apocalyptothon), and this is the most creative way I've ever read to end the world. The universe, even. Grim and inevitable, and just a wonderful fic.
And, we're only supposed to give five recs, but I'm giving one more:
Three Stages of a Relationship by
sansetsBSG, Helo/Chief, PG-13ish
Written for the
frak_buddies Helo/Tyrol fic exchange. Hurty and good and messy (in terms of the relationship, not the writing!). Pre-cylon attack.
