Irresponsible Captain Tylor (episodes 1-26, complete)

So I finally watched Irresponsible Captain Tylor. I wanted to rent it from Netflix way back when, but it was always unavailable, and now Hulu has finally come through (though I still don't like Hulu...)

It's so old. I mean, I wouldn't say the animation even looks bad, though it definitely gets loose in places, but it just looks... like Eva. About the same age, or maybe even older. Also, the dub is good, but the dubbed opening and ending just killed me every time.

It was a fun show. There were some things left unresolved (nothing was ever done about the evil chancellor), but overall, I really did like it. The crew really grew on me, and Tylor was memorable in his own way. Yuriko was also pretty cool all around. I enjoyed it enough that I didn't even care that every female character except exactly one fell in love with Tylor.

It's interesting to see just how consistent and persistent the "space elves" thing is. I mean, look at the recent Majestic Prince (which was mecha, but same deal). The enemies have such a similar feel to them, somehow. It's like the only enemies a space show can have are either a bitter human colony that has since grown into another power (Nadesico, Gundams) or space elves. I did like how we had an ongoing parallel story about Azelin and her people. Seeing so much of them made the whole conflict feel more interesting.
