penknife. It's not particularly profound, but there's a nice wistfulness to it. And a good reminder to modern readers just how valuable hand-made goods are (I so often get upset at how lightly fic writers treat horses in RH fandom)(er, besides the characterization it provides):

I am very, very busy, but I think my fanmix is (finally) done--the song selection, at least--and there will probably be some meta to appear shortly. Besides the insanity of schoolwork, which is crazy this semester, my parents are coming to visit next weekend for the first time since I've lived in this city, and the eldest child's need to look perfect and on top of things is kicking in like crazy (TODAY I MADE CHICKEN STOCK. It's delicious but really? Chicken stock?)
