+ Trying to teach the cats how to use the new cat door. Hahahahaha. I think we gave them catnip too early in the process.

+ re: Game of Thrones #2 - a bit slow but still interesting, Tyrion is awesome, OH MY GOODNESS DANY. THAT SCENE.

+ semi-related but general: What do you think about authors who request that there be no fanfic of their work? Do you think we ought to respect their wishes, or do you think that once a work is published, it is (within reason) fair game?

I tend to fall in the latter camp. I think if a friend asked me I would respect their wishes, or at least I wouldn't share it with anyone. But I do think that when you make a piece of art and send it out into the world, you are contributing to a tradition or a scene or a movement or some greater whole--your work doesn't just exist in a vacuum; even museum pieces in glass cases end up on coffee mugs or with mustaches painted over them. Not to say that that's not tacky, but I think trying to regulate the ways that people respond to something that moves them is slippery and ultimately a bit silly. Even if they don't write fanfic, that piece of fiction (or whatever) is now part of their mental landscape. See: 90% of modern fantasy and Tolkien. But I do think that if an author says they don't want you to show them any fic, you should absolutely respect that.

+ oh and NEW WHO. I feel sort of bad because we invited some people over who had never seen it before, and that was their intro. Not that it was bad, just that it wasn't what I would choose to introduce someone to the show. CURIOUS.

+ p.s. because I don't have a tumblr: Naya Rivera as Joanna would be badass. Just saying. RAZORS ALL UP IN HER HAIR.

+ p.p.s. husband and co. are making me play dungeons & dragons. I'm retaliating by being an emo teen girl druid. Who might have a thing for vampires.

doctor who, glee, tv, a-questing we will go, a song of ice and fire, the menagerie, writing, hunger games
