What better way to procrastinate? I started some new things so I could save the shows Monsieur and I normally watch together (Inbetweeners, IT Crowd, LotS) for when he comes back. And Glee started! Spoilers under the cut for Glee & Spooks.

Yay Glee! So far I've enjoyed the new season. Sam and Kurt are totally going to get together, aren't they? I actually really enjoyed the Britney episode. The plot was . . . bizarre, to say the least (hello bad adult role models and general creepiness) but I love Brittany and wow is she a fantastic dancer. Some of those numbers were the best they've had on the show, no question. Also, that episode was surprisingly sexual. I mean, that was sort of the point but I was kind of surprised to see how much innuendo there was in the dancing. Though Brittany & Santana as Britney & Madonna was pretty awesome ; )

This week's episode was simultaneously hilarious, heartwrenching, and uncomfortable. Kurt's storyline was amazing, and he was fantastic. I don't think the religious stuff was balanced enough, though. I'm glad the atheists didn't back down, and I think the show was really about believing in something--people, love, friends--rather than believing in a religion, but I do wish that the people who were religious were made to understand that it's not okay to force religion on people and that while religion can be a positive and powerful thing, it can also be negative (I did like that they had Rachel, who's Jewish, praying with Christians, though). Kurt opened up to his friends' perspectives by going to church, but I'd wish he'd gotten something more than 'it's okay to be an atheist' from a friend while in church and right before a gospel number.

And Finn and Grilled Cheesus was one of the best things ever : D

New Spooks: meh. Nothing too objectionable, nothing too amazing. I did have the incredibly bizarre experience of finding Richard Armitage hot at the same time that I really, really didn't want to see Maia think Lucas/John was hot. I wanted her to just leave, but instead we got the weirdest, most hesitant kiss ever that was all about RA's huge nose and long neck and wow he's pale but in an adorably English way. Needs more Ruth and Beth. And Tariq and Dmitri, actually.

Old Spooks: So I heard the show used to be better, decided to check it out, and so far I like it. It really helps that Matthew MacFayden is the lead and adorable and how did I not realize how amazing his voice was before? That Robin Hood thing is suddenly far more intriguing.

So, when did Spooks become the Harry Pearce show? Because I can't say I was missing him. Also have decided he looks like a platypus with ears. Anyways, I did find that episode two had one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen on television. It wasn't graphic, but it was graphic enough and Jesus fuck I'm actually glad they shot her. And so the show started early on its 'no one is safe' thing. Except Harry, apparently.

Undercovers has potential. I like that the leads are a married black couple. I like that they can be cooks and spies and in love. I like that Sam(antha) gets to do her full share of ass-kicking and that she was the one chasing the bad guy in a car with a bazooka. I don't like how all of the white people are obnoxious (though I think Leo could become fun) and I don't like all the married people clichés (finishing each other's sentences, squabbling about reading directions, being spies makes our tired sex life exciting). I think the show is a bit lightweight right now, but it sounds like there's stuff going on that we don't know about yet so I'll give it a few more episodes.

Off to experiment with beets for dinner.
