good morning
first, a fic rec: An Ever-Fixed Mark - Merlin, PGish, Merlin/Gwen/Arthur/Morgana. Yes. Basically, it's a Merlin fic, AU/crossover in that this world uses a type of four-way marriage from one of Ursula K. LeGuin's stories. A good plot, excellent character dynamics; there's same-sex pairings as well as het, but it's mostly about the love they all have for each other. Really wonderful.
I'm cheating. I couldn't pick just one photo because I love Cluny so much. This was 2006, probably March.
Thirteenth-century storehouse.
You will notice that I like roads.
Medieval mason's measure, carved into the wall of a church. Apparently these are pretty rare.
There were a couple of houses in town that are from the twelfth/thirteenth centuries. Love the romanesque windows with the perfectly square panes of glass.
Site of the old Cluniac church before it was destroyed. It was absolutely enormous, and was one of the largest churches in Europe (Wikipedia says it was the largest until St. Peter's was built in Rome).
Inside part of the church that still stands.
This is pretty much how I remember Burgundy. That sort of weather, not particularly affluent, charming jumble of buildings with red tile roofs, which surprised me--I typically think of the tile roofs as more Mediterranean.
