Finally, a new Shadow Sacrament

Jan 01, 2007 22:39

Very, very late, but worth the wait. The Fall issue of The Shadow Sacrament is finally done. It includes Doug Harrison's spiritual autobiography, In Pursuit of Ecstasy, dedicated to Fakir Musafar and including some wonderful photos. This is a must-read for kinky Wagner fans. Wagner? You mean, like Tristan und Isolde? Yup. Richard Wagner.

Plus -- Spotlight on Raven Kaldera! Featuring a review of his newest book, Dark Moon Rising: BDSM and the Ordeal Path, a compendium of Raven's writing on ritual BDSM and sex magick, along with articles by such notable BDSM writers as Jennifer Hunter and Bridgett Harrington; an article of mine (the quasi-Pagan Quaker) is in there also. Plus an interview with Raven by Sensuous Sadie, from her own as-yet-unreleased new book, Spiritual Transformation through BDSM: Stories and Submissions from Fellow Travelers -- which will also include an interview with me. As soon as it's out, the lucky Shadow Sacrament reviewer will have a copy. And there's an article by Raven himself. How cool is that?

And check out the Bitch Godesses and Bad Girls.

This is the first issue of TSS' volume 2; it was intended for the Celtic New Year, Samhain, but comes on the Christian one instead, as I point out in my editorial, wherein I also make mention of the upcoming Saints & Sinners Literary Fest-- time to start planning for a spring trip to New Orleans. It's going to be a really good one, with Dorothy Allison, Jewelle Gomez, Clive Barker and many others. I can't wait. Warmth. Gumbo. Exotic drinks. The world's best bar bands. And writers to schmooz with by the pool at Olivier House. Laissez les bon temps roulez!

So, with the final putting-to-bed of this issue, I am now on the quest for material for the NEXT one. I am always looking for personal experience essays about any and every aspect of sex as it relates to spirituality, from as many diverse spiritual viewpoints as possible. I encourage every writer who has a story to tell, whether previously published or not, to submit their work to The Shadow Sacrament. I gladly accept reprints, too. Can't pay much, but I will get your name out there, and I can publish things that don't fit anywhere else -- so please take a look at the call for submissions! I have lots more time to nag now, and those who have mentioned works-in-progress will be hearing from me. Actually, all the terrific writers I know will be hearing from me, hat in hand, even if they've never written a word about spirituality in their lives. The next deadline is (as always) flexible, but I really hope to hit a bit closer to the mark -- Imbolc -- this time.

And for the New Year, The Shadow Sacrament is now an Amazon associate, by which I hope to generate a little income with which to pay writers. So, if you're going to buy queer books from Amazon
, click on this or the link from the journal pages, and TSS will get a little kickback.

Happy New Year!
