first day of classes

Aug 31, 2006 20:18

ok, so i woke up this morning nice and early. why you ask? because of the sun. why was the sun shining through my window you ask? because my window shade doesnt lower. and despite filing not one but two work orders for it, facilities has yet to take care of it. i know, i know, this is the busiest time of the year for them but 1st floor window problems are supposed to be top priority.

anyway, my window trouble aside, my first class is evolution. this is a class that i got out of the prereqs for using AP bio, which the school doesnt even accept to get out of bio. as most sophomores havent yet taken bio or are currently taking it, they do not enroll in this class. as a result, i am the only underclassman in the entire class of about 20 or so. we went around the room saying our names, what year we were and why we were taking the class. basically the entire thing was "my name is XYZ, im a junior (or senior) and im a bio major". etc. except the lone sophomore, myself. whatever...shouldnt be too bad, and there are people in know in there.

next class...bio. taught by a mostly deaf british guy...now that is an interesting accent. the class is held in a large auditorium as there are over 200 people in it. i was a little bit late as evolution went a bit overtime and my friends who had good seats didnt save me one (they said they tried to but people just kept coming) so i had to sit in the mezzanine. the mezzanine is not very conducive to listening and i had the blowfish crossword with me (big grid crossword written by the students themselves) and as a result, RS and I were doing that for most of the class, perking up when he mentioned something new. he just went through the limits of the human eye and microscopes and a bit about cells

next class was roman history. the guy seemed interesting enough, though again i got there a little late and had to take a seat in the back ergo i could barely hear him. i had pictured him looking like the "famous historian" from monty python and the holy grail, and i was not too far off. class seems interesting enough and from everything i hear, if you take good notes you will do fine.  note to self--sit closer up next time.

after lunch (yay for sherman dairy), went to my other history class, this one being much larger than the last one and is about WWII. turns out i know a ton of people in the class, the guy seems like a good teacher, and it should be all around fun for everyone.

only class i havent had yet is bio lab, and i wont have it for some time as the first lab lecture is september 8th and the first lab sections are the next week. since thats the only class i have on either friday or tuesday, with labor day monday, i dont have class from now (thursday night) until next wednesday. pretty sweet, no?
