a wedding? i love weddings! drinks all around! --Pirates 1
so last night was my brother's wedding. it was out in staten island--actually the first time i have ever been to staten island other than passing through. the hotel was pretty nice--and there was a stretch porsche in the parking lot, that was something i have never seen before--but we were kinda hoping that the weather would hold out to have the wedding outside. this is because the "inside" option was a large tent with strange sculptures, including two horse's heads. the hotel itself seemed to have a very mafioso-type clientele, maybe they were going for the godfather theme with the sculptures, i dont know. however, it was a moot point. the weather was nicer than any other mid-august day ive ever seen. mid 70s, no humidity. i guess that was payback for their engagement party, which was the worst weather possible--out in belle harbor the day of the big blizzard. i think 10 people showed up to that.
also, vowing not to repeat my mistakes from my sisters wedding a year ago, i made sure to get all my food in before the tisch started. of course, this entailed eating an entire dinners worth of food in about ten minutes, but so be it. fun note on the shmorg--you spend all that money on fancy food for it and the most popular station is footlong hot dogs.
anyway, chuppah was outside much to everyone's relief. i emceed, that went off quite hitchless, then came the meal and dancing
at this point, two of my cousins, aged 18 and 17, were getting progressively drunker and drunker. by the end, the 17 year old was stumbling over himself, though the 18 year old was a lot smarter. then again, he goes to super right wing yeshivas and has been drinking basically since age 15. higher tolerance, but much better self-control too. the progressive drunkening was going on with the encouragement of a few of my brothers friends as well as my brother-in-law, though their auspices were quite unnecessary--they just went up tot he bar and got it themselves. they asked me on several occasions if i wanted them to get me some alcohol. i consistantly refused, though had i really wanted it, i could just get it myself.
i also had about 20 people or so asking if i was going to get married next august (my sister last august, my brother last night), to which i smiled and nodded, about 200 people saying i was next, and about 50 saying "its your turn"--the response was in general, a smile and a nod.
overall, twas a very nice night. i do wish that
superducky1 could have been there though. even though that would have exponentially increased the number of annoying comments, it would have been quite worth it.
stayed in the hotel overnight, turns out my options were order a cot and stay in the room with my parents or stay in the room with my grandma which already had a second bed in it. i chose the latter, but it turns out that my grandma snores. woke up this morning still very tired and wishing i had earplugs. as there was no sheva brachot tonight and we had tickets to the yankee game. never thought we would actually use the tickets for the night after the wedding and we had trouble selling them, so we just went. twas fun. but now i basically havent slept well since saturday night and there was a wedding in between. im tired
