Dinner tonight

I'm cooking with alcohol in all the dishes tonight. Tonight's theme, can we try to get me drunk. I blame the bf. They seem to do a lot of drinking together when he hangs out with the others. He got drunk on port. Apparently a good drink that had him thinking Christmas. But, it got me going, oooh, let's break out the alcohol and see what I can make with it. So, I was looking online reading a blog on allrecipes for Witchywoman. It was the first time I'd been to her blog, but all she had to say was Margarita Strawberry Shortcake. I had my dessert! The strawberries are marinating as I type. They'll probably overmarinate, but is that REALLY a possibility? Maybe, since the strawberries were almost overripe now. Anyway, I'm sipping at the juices at times and, yep, strawberry margarita. So, then I was playing around mentally and pulled out a small package of boneless pork chops I had in the freezer. I added some triple sec and some peachtree schnapps. I figure I can make a gravy to put on it with some either more schnapps or my bordeaux wine. So, the next challenge to me is, what side dish can I make with alcohol in it? No, the little one is NOT getting the dessert. I figure the alcohol will mostly be cooked out of the rest of the food. But, the flavor will still be there. Maybe pick up some broccoli and a splash of chambord? Just to add some raspberry to it. I'll see how the meal works. Oh, and there's some chambord in the strawberry chocolate bread. Just because I wanted to see how it would taste. Maybe it'll be a regular addition. I know I'll add some chambord to the whipped cream for dessert.
Everyone seemed to like last night's spaghetti sauce. All I did was two cans of tomato sauce, four sausage links, some garlic powder, balsamic vinegar, basil, thyme, chinese five spice, cinnamon, ginger, and oregano. Seems like all I added to my regular sauce was the ginger. But, it did make it a little better. Oh, and I didn't do tomato paste that time. Just right, in the end. Though the girls wouldn't eat my garlic bread, still. They really aren't much of garlic bread eaters. The boy ate his with little comment. I don't know if it worked for him or not. It was a quick and cheap throw together. I couldn't bring myself to eat it though it did smell right to me. Oh well.
Ok, here's a big shock. I can't remember the last time he and I talked as long as we did last night. As in over two hours total. I spent a lot of money on my phone this time, and it was worth every minute. We honestly did talk. It even made me a little more confident about things. I guess maybe I just need to hear from him sometimes and just talk. His comment was that the problem is that MSN won't let us do voice chat anymore. Plus, he doesn't like Skype either. So, we're stuck with this until MSN starts working again, if it ever will.
