This is the post band camp entry so prepare...
Where to begin this past week was full of massive amounts of drama, pain, lack of sleep, marching, and good ol' shenanigans. It was really a good time to be with all the people who I come to realize that they make my life here in middlesex that much better. Sure there are people there who I would really REALLY like to see dead but the good outweigh the bad and thats all that matters.
The line this year is doing really good in my opinion this year sure we had a few rough sectionals at camp that involved a few people crying and Andy white throwing a few sticks in frustration but in the end it ended up good in the end. The bases can even play tonal now thats fucking amazing in middlesex standards. There is a ranking system in the drumline (in my opinion) if mr. White thinks your good enough he puts you right on snare if he thinks you have potential he puts you on base and if he think you have good stick speed he puts you on quads (you have to be 1337) Idk maybe thats just my opinion. But we have come a long way from the first practice in July and now that camp is over we got so much accomplished even with the crappy weather. I think this year I have taken in the music so easier than the past two and this year's music is pretty challenging.
I am going to miss this years senior boys pretty bad next yeah thats a for sure thing. At first some of them were really immature and I judged them before I really gave them a chance. When it came down to it they really were a fun group who took responsibility and acted accordingly. I am happy with the two leaders of the line this year, although technically they weren't declared captains, in my eyes they are and deserve it because as I talked with them they realize whats best for us and care for everyones' well being That is what it takes to be a leader, not how much skill you have, not just for the title of captain, but for the well being of the drumline. Sure this may sound corny to some but I guess you just had to be there for it to really mean something. Some people just have trouble realizing that they can't do things someone with more experience and age under their belts. While we were up at camp there was so much drama with who was doing what and what one could do or couldn't do (I am pretty much leaving out the main details and I'm just giving you the outline) but the people who were there know what I'm talking about. All in good time I say, some people just don't have the patience and it bothers me that they want to take that burden upon themselves and can barely handle their own problems.
I also feel that I have gotten better I mean I know I have because I can read music so much easier now and play it with the right sticking and right heads in my case. We are playing smooth criminal and it has diddles in it and when I first saw it I couldn't even come close to playing it with the sticking. But now I can do it easily and it sounds good I think if I keep this up I just might be able to make it in a marching band past high school I just feel every time I pick up a pair of sticks I get that much better I really hope I can keep this momentum until that final day comes where I make it or I don't
But on some good things I was really really happy that Scotty's band "Wine and Spirit" performed at camp. It was simply a great show they are really into what they do just the energy they give the crowd wasn't that large because people went back to the cabins or stepped outside to hang out but that didn't stop them from giving the people who were there 110%. Thats what it takes to be a great musician and to enjoy it in my opinion. Possibly the best moment was when Scotty dedicated "Ballroom Blitz" to me I was just amazed at how well they redid it with a new sound I really want to see these guys again and if you ever have a chance to see them do it, it will be worth it.
So here is to you senior's of 08' you will be missed dearly during my senior year and its a shame that it ended so soon I just hope that this year will be as good as I think its going to be
*cheers*
