Bitter Sweet
You must forgive my sucky Photoshop skills! I am lazy, but I thought it looked okay. Happy birthday! May your day be full of win and awesome.

Bitter

Melanie Rose sighed.

"You all right?" Ianto asked kindly, turning towards her.

She smiled at him and pulled her coat tighter around her body. "Oh, I'm fine," she answered. "It wasn't a sad sigh, Ianto. I'm having a lovely time."

"Of course you are," Nick remarked suddenly, taking a quick break from his survey of the area to participate in the conversation. "I'm here aren't I?"

Melly rolled her eyes. But she gave Nick an indulgent smile and said, "Of course - where would we be without you?"

The three of them - Melly, Ianto, and Nick - had gone out for a walk; she'd finally gotten a day off and she'd invited Ianto to come along. Nick hadn't been doing anything, either, and he'd been right there so they invited him to come along. It was a chilly day, so they'd all bundled up, and Ianto had brought along a big thermos full of his coffee.

Melanie was happy. She took a small step closer to Ianto, and looked out across the water.
He looked especially handsome, his hair a little spiked, his dark navy coat sitting perfectly across his shoulders. He always looked so neat and put-together; it was one of the qualities she liked most about him. Well... that, and he was so kind. And he made the best coffee. And he did have a lovely smile.

Nick took a swig of the coffee. Melly was almost surprised he'd been willing to drink it at all - he was so paranoid that he probably suspected it was poisoned. She and Ianto had both taken drinks first, though, so he must have known it was all right.

"Oh! Sorry, hold on." Ianto smiled apologetically as he took out his mobile. "Just have to take this call - shouldn't be long." He stepped away and put the phone to his ear. Melly sighed, staring at him surreptitiously out of the corner of her eye.

Nick moved closer and smiled at her charmingly. "Well he's nice. Good looking bloke, isn't he?"

She nodded absently. "Yes, Ianto is very handsome." She flushed lightly. "And certainly nice. He's one of my best friends."

"Wouldn't mind being friends with him myself." Nick grinned and Melly shot him a quick look of annoyance. Ianto wasn't hers, certainly, but she didn't like the thought of him with anyone else, either. Nick had been flirting with the both of them all day; and she was used to it so it didn't really bother her - she and Nick were very close, as well; she didn't have the feelings for him she had for Ianto, but certainly she cared a great deal about him.

"That was my boss," Ianto said with a quick, apologetic smile. "Looks like I'm needed back at the office, so I'm afraid I'll have to cut our outing short."

"Too bad," Nick said, leaning casually against the railing. "We'll miss you."

Ianto raised a brow pertly. "I'm sorry to deprive you." He gave Melly a warm smile. "I am glad we got to spend some time together - we'll have to do it again soon."

"Definitely." She couldn't help the bright, happy smile she wore as he extended his arms to her for a hug. She stepped into the embrace eagerly, wrapping her arms around him. Her hands skated across his back, nearly able to feel the muscles of his back beneath the heavy fabric of his coat.

He pulled away sooner than she'd have liked an smiled, squeezing her arm gently. "Goodbye Melly. I'll talk to you later."

He waved goodbye to Nick and headed off. She sighed and folded her arms on top of the railing, her chin resting on her wrist.

"You all right?" Nick asked, patting her shoulder. "We ought to go soon; nearly time for lunch."

She sighed, looking out across the flat, gray water. "All right, Nick. Soon."

Sweet

Nicholas smiled.

"What are you so happy about?" Melly asked him teasingly, laying a hand on his arm.

He was just in a good mood. True, the woman that had been following him that morning had set him off a bit, but he'd managed to lose her after turning a corner.

He and Melanie Rose, along with her rather attractive friend Ianto, had just finished lunch. It had been delicious, and since Melly had made it he knew there was no chance of poison.

Ianto and Melly had been chatting off and on all the while; Nick had thrown in a flirtatious comment here and there, but he'd enjoyed just watching the two of them. They made a lovely pair: both pale with dark hair, Melly short where Ianto was tall.

They were both lovely creatures, and that was something Nick could appreciate. Ianto was wearing a well-fitted suit, and he looked damn good in it. The red silk shirt he wore under his black vest snaked down his arms, falling like a river down a trim torso, tucked into dark trousers that - Nick had noticed with some measure of interest - fit him nicely. Nick could appreciate a nice arse when he saw one, and Ianto did the world a disservice by sitting down.

And Melly... She looked young, but her skin was clear and pale, her eyes rich and brown, every wave of her hair smooth and shining against thin cheeks and a slender neck. She was wearing a pink dress with a soft white cardigan, her bare legs nearly as white as her thinly clad arms. The top pearly button was right at her neck line, the slight swell of cleavage peeking out that he wanted - oh, he wanted - to trace with a warm, open mouth.

He blinked and smiled wider, imagining the feel of a silk shirt coming unbuttoned under his hands and a dainty pink dress on the floor beside him. "Nothing particular," he answered casually, a dark, erotic fire banked in his eyes. His smile was nothing short of predatory. "Just having a good day."
