Cowboy Bebop   short, effect-ish type fic "The Sea Tides of the Soul"
Spike/Faye

He always said that to fight, one had to become like water.  He practiced what he taught - and there was never a day in which she didn't see him as a deep, murky ocean or a crashing, white-capped wave.  He could flow and reform - cohesive, adhesive, taking whatever shape she poured him into.

From her days on earth, she remembered that their moon had controlled the tides.  It was no secret who had control over that particular cowboy; Julia was his moon.

And he would ebb and flow as he met her or thought about her - all the while leaving the lonely woman who passively chased him standing alone on distant shores.

She wanted to feel the pull of those tides.  She wanted to understand why one woman had that much power over him - what was so special about her?  How could he love someone so completely and utterly, and still seem so blasé?  Why couldn't he see that he was rapidly becoming the heavenly body that controlled her - the her who was just another woman who could never live up to his standards?

It wasn't true love.  But he filled her with a hollow sort of sadness, and all she wanted was a second glance.  He was inaccessible - beautiful, bold, and out of her reach.

Just another distant, celestial sea.

Blargh.  I still can't get this down.  Drat!  Heh.   Ahh - title from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  Sonnet.  I like it.
