Yes, it was very clear to me she wasn't stupid; I mean she did raise Jayne, who although not a road scholar, is *NOT* by any means stupid.
I'm always defending him to people when they tell me he's stupid. For example, my cousin. I got her hooked on Firefly during my Christmas vacation up north and her favorite character quickly became Simon--but she didn't really like Jayne and when I asked her why she said it was because she liked smart guys.
-_-' Yeah, we had a three hour debate on the subject and by the end of it Jayne had become one of her favorite characters. I was so proud that I managed to change her opinion of him. She still likes Simon better, but at least she gave Jayne a chance.
It is great. As always. You are an amazing writer. Seriously, writers are always our own worst critics. Do you know how many of my stories I think suck but that everyone else tells me is good? I'd say about 80%. And no matter how many times I tell you how truly awesome your writing is your still going to fret and worry with every chapter aren't you? Hee.
